Reminded me right away of one I had in 1975:

    S3315_Model_RR_V2_BAR_Boxcar_OC75.jpg

On my second layout, in October 1975. My Dad surreptitiously took photos of new acquisitions while I was in school... and playing with my trains...:cautious:

I got that one the next Christmas.

Beats me if I remember what make that was...:ROFLMAO:

I don't know but the prototype maker sure wanted to make sure the corner stirrups were plenty big for the trainmen.

This is a Mantua box car. The doors have bars on them like a jailhouse. Would you call this a jail car?

Too bad Swanson quality has deteriorated drastically over the last few years.

Great Northern gondola with a "bought" load. I purchased the load on line thinking it would fit in a regular size gondola but when I received it, I realized it was too long. So I went to a train show on the hunt for the right gondola and this is what I finally bought.

Don't know who made this car but it has screw in trucks. Also there are no markings on this car.

I thought I recognized the style of box car:

    MILW_22931.jpg

That's a Roundhouse kit. Every time I go to a train show I look for those kits and buy them up. Great for rainy days, blizzards, or just plain too hot outside.

So I build one of those and forget about what's going on outside.:)

Years ago, I picked up this track cleaner car for less than $1 thinking I could possible fix it. However, when I started looking at it, there was more wrong with it than I thought. So I just left it alone and used it on a side track for looks. If I start a layout again, I might put wheels on it and tow it around as a work car.

Excellent idea! Work crews in remote or difficultly accessed areas might need fuel for their tools, machinery, etc.

It's the same Tyco platform used for their searchlight car too:

One of a two-car set I got as a birthday present from my co-workers a few years ago. New in box, never opened until I got it.

    Best co-workers ever!:)

I made a scrap load for the Great Northern gondola and put it with the other gondola that has a homemade scrap load.
