Transport of New Jersey PCC 10, Newark, NJ, October 1974 (Beyer Patton) Waiting for the rush, Gladstone, NJ, October 1974 (Beyer Patton)
Neat picture! Gladstone was at the end of a DL&W branchline which endeared itself to fans with its interurban feel. Unlike the road's other lines with multiple tracks and heavy standards, the Gladstone Branch was, and remains, single track with short passing sidings. It still serves passengers today.

EL Coach Trailer 3247, Gladstone, NJ, October 1974 (Beyer Patton) EL Motor Coach 3521, Gladstone, NJ, October 1974 (Beyer Patton)
Fun Fact: As seen on trailer car 3247 in the top photo, upon relettering the MUs for the EL the railroad simply added the word ERIE in many cases. This left the original LACKAWANNA lettering centered on the carbody and the ERIE stuck on at the left. Motor unit 3521 in the lower photo had the entire letterboard repainted, so all is centered. The DL&W decided upon 3000 VDC for their overhead, same as the MILW. This was more than needed for MU cars, but the DL&W thought that they might someday electrify additional segments of the railroad to more effectively move heavy freight tonnage. Numerous studies were made, but the wire never went west of the end of suburban territory at Dover, NJ. I'm loving these shots Bill.

In this photo of 901, that looks like a pop-off valve shooting steam upward. If so, I cannot imagine how he could stand being so close to that kind of noise!
