Thanks for the welcome. I started modeling about 70 years ago and have been mostly building 1/72 scale aircraft. I have recently started using 3D printing to add to my toolbox and can see where it can be a very useful addition. Now I need to learn to use some of the 3D drawing software so I can use them even more. I am retired and have recently decided to start building a N scale railroad layout. So far about all I have done is collect some rolling stock and a lot of ideas. I am still looking for the right track plan to get started. I am thinking about somewhere in the1930s to 1950s time period. That way I can run steam and deasil both, and I am leaning towards a DCC system with at least 3 or 4 trains on a 4 x 8 layout. That is about as far as I have go so far. I have looked at a lot of track plans but haven't seen anything that looks like something I would like to try. At this time, I thing a lot of my structures will be card models. Less painting for me and I am comfortable with their construction, plus I have a growing file of then already. Again thanks for the welcome and I enjoy reading about what a lot of you have been doing and hope that some day I can be a little more than a outside lurker and an active builder. Right now my online sources are about all I have, as there do not appear to be many modelers of any type in the area where I live., as I am a little over an hour SE of from Dallas.

Welcome aboard, John! Are you planning to use any aircraft models (albeit smaller than what you've been doing HAHA) on your new layout? I'd also throw out there that getting on some of the free design software will let you play around with ideas and spark some creativity if you're not dead-set on any specific layout plan yet.

Welcome aboard John. I guess that would put you in the heart of the "Piney Woods" or the Big Thicket.

Welcome to Trainboard! As a card modeler, I have found that this medium has given me almost unlimited flexibility.

Are you near Cedar Creek? My wife and I live about 170 miles west of Denton. I am also new to the forum.
