My next mission for my new layout is to build a very nice sawmill Something like this one yes I hear your screams glutton for punishment LOL The next being built over coming weeks maybe
You aren't a glutton for punishment, you just have big dreams! Ones involving masochism, but still..... Good luck and keep us posted! Mark
Walthers kits aren't too bad to build........thought maybe you were going to do one of those giant wood craftsman kits. We have one of the walthers kits on our club layout.....it's a nice size.......big enough to generate rail traffic, but not taking up too much realestate.
Hi just completed all but a logging camp that was very fiddly and very challenging for so I thought I need a nice sawmill so bough one to go with logging either end of this new layout like you say not a lot room for buildings but a nice big trestle bridge mountain scene river and causeway
We are copying each other. Thats the same sawmill i made for my town. The rest not so cheap!! It will look nice when you get it weathered. I added tar paper roof and some other things along with what you get with the kit. Just one idea, The sawmill had a steam engine and it also did electric for the town. They used the wood/bark when they were running a lot of wood in the mill and coal when they were idle. Just a idea.
How to fit this in on my layout Here's the sizes of sawmill on my 75cm x 1.m.50cm DESCRIPTION DETAILS Whether set in the days when Shays and Heislers ruled the forests, or served by contemporary diesels and trucks, the Walthers Cornerstone Mountain Lumber Company sawmill can be the centrepiece of any logging operation. Everything you'll need to start work is included, from the log conveyor to the burner. The mill building is enclosed with board and batten siding and covered with a corrugated metal roof. This style is typical of permanent operations or those that ran in areas where the weather could turn cold. At the back is a canopied area, where fresh-cut boards are sorted. To keep the machinery running, there's a nicely detailed powerhouse with twin smokestacks. And for the final touch, you get a sawdust burner, used to dispose of scrap lumber and sawdust from the cutting operations. Typical of buildings constructed from the 1920s to the 1940s and still in use today, the Mountain Lumber Company model fits easily into steam- or diesel-era layouts. FEATURES: Includes main mill, log conveyor, powerhouse and sawdust burner Realistic wood-textured walls and canopied sorting area on main mill Fits steam and diesel-era layouts Printed signs Easy-to-build plastic kit Moulded in appropriate colours We recommend using Plastic Glue to construct this kit.
