Hello. Just joining. I am new to the hobby at 63 yrs old. I live in Montana and n scale people are few. l grew up watching the Milwaukee Road operations in Eastern Montana so that is the equipment I will use. (Hard to find) I am refurbishing what was part of a larger layout that I got what I thought was a pretty good deal on considering the number of switches and track it had. It was a 4 x 8 cut into a kidney shape with a branch on two sides that just ended at the edge. In order to make it work for me I built a 4 x 10 frame put the kidney piece on it cut plywood to the shape of the missing parts and connected the 2 dead ended track to each other using a 2% grade helix. Anyway I will have lots of questions as I continue and am interested in knowing if there are any other here from Montana or Northern Wyoming

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

Long time resident of NW Montana, doing modular modeling (slowly) in both N and HOn30 scales. Occasionally get out and do a little bit of railfanning.

Welcome aboard! Spent 4 years in Great Falls, currently in central ND. You're right equipment for the MILW is hard to come by. Do you have a specific era or territory focus? Electrification or no? Amazing how varied the terrain in Montana is, east to west.

Depending on your time frame, there's actually a lot of Milwaukee Road stuff out there. It sometimes takes a bit to find it, but it's out there in multiple paint schemes. Feel free to ask if you have questions.

No specific era no electric planned. I have the Kato Olmpian Hiawatha some GP38's a GP30 a switcher and a GP40 for power right now and for rolling stock Milwaukee of course and NP and GN. Pretty much stuff I remember growing up in Miles City. Both NP and Milwaukee ran there and Milwaukee had a yard with shops there. The layout isn't going to be real accurate just want to run trains and tinker around

My layout will just be "spirit of the Milwaukee", nothing specific. Now that you say it, I think you did run when we were at the Bozeman mall. We'll be back this coming weekend if you're interested. There are GP9s,30s,35s,38s and 40s out there.....SD7s,40s and 45s......EMD FTs (in 3 paint schemes), 7s (4 paint schemes) and FP7s (2 schemes).....U23s and U25s......FP45s (2 schemes).....also RS1s (2 schemes), RS3s, and RSD2s and 4/5s......and C-liners (2 schemes) For switchers there are VO1000s (2 schemes), NW2s, S2s, SW1500s. And there are 4-4-0s, 4-6-2s and 2-8-2s for steam. Probably forgetting a few as well. Looking ahead, if you are up for a drive, there will be a swap meet in Livingston and Helena at the end of April .....Livingston is on saturday and Helena on Sunday. https://www.facebook.com/2253200209...5zZXfpoeNDHHY_2UdSpIHjA6IE1caQEA&__tn__=-UK-R

    Welcome to Trainboard, Tim! (y)

I used to model the Milwaukee Road in N-scale back in the 90's, very hard to find Milw rolling stock! Used to buy resin "Ribside" boxcars from some manufacturers and painted and decaled my own stuff. Lot's of stuff available these days in Milw compared to the old days!

Now I'm doing the Milwaukee Road in Z-starting all over again! Luckily there's rapid prototype makers out there now. I can even get Milw locos and caboose's in Milw, and actually have some Ribsiders too!
