Check out Wiking, they have some really nice N scale VWs. Don't know if they have your specific model but have looked at a few of their VW kits.
I might be able to have my buddy print this out for you and if you like it cool if not, no harm no foul. https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/7690be63-68cb-47da-bc5c-5cbc673171fc/Volkswagen-Golf-GTI-MK7 He's printing me up the Fotomat booth right now in white - we'll see what the quality looks like and i'll post it. He's using this: https://www.prusa3d.com/category/original-prusa-i3-mk3s/
I have no experience with the world of 3D printing, so I'm not sure how to respond. So then your friend would print one out free of charge? Sounds good, but today's shipping costs are probably ~ $8 and I'm not sure if I need one at that rate. Let me think it over, and thanks! BTW, the Fotomat booth is such a great period piece! Kind of like the corner mailbox and newspaper machines, a happy memory from a now distant era.
@Hardcoaler I would send them to you for free of charge. I’ll see if he can print 2 or 3 and if you like how they come out I’ll send em. The fotomat came out good - I’m impressed for a $750 printer.
@Hardcoaler Yes I have a nostalgia love for the fotomat booths. I don’t know what it is hahaha. I saw an HO scale booth that was shaped like a camera - I cant find it on google again. :-/ I asked Zach to print a sample of the Golf so we can see how it turns out.
This 3D printing stuff seems to be getting better all the time and just as importantly it's getting more affordable. In today's mail I got these 3D models of the 1920's Sears kit homes. At $12.00 each they are much less than the injection molded kits from the major manufacturers for similar prototype. Plus these were made in the USA. I am really impressed with the quality and each of these is in several pieces so that should make it easier for painting. They are destined to be part of a small town on my layout.
I received my 2 Micro-Trains Southern Railway heavyweight coaches today. That gives me a 10 car passenger train. I figure 2 Atlas GP7 Torpedo Tube engines will pull it satisfactorily.
Oh yes, bought a box of n scale bears. Now they're raising hell , raiding trash all over the layout. Mrs Kowalski is having none of it, she was a partisan in WW2 . That bear is in trouble.
One of the things I learned in the Tamiya RC world was paint masking parts with silly putty. That will prob be done with the 3D printed stuff - I am enjoying painting disassembled kits much more than built up.
Okay, cool on the Golf Mk-7! Sometimes Fotomat's work wasn't always the best. When I was in college, I couldn't always afford Kodak processing of my Kodachrome slides. Nowadays, if I look at a faded slide of mine from the late 1970s, it's in a Fotomat frame. Nonetheless, their booths are a bit of Americana that I miss seeing ... along with camera stores.
Went to the Hobby Nook in Smithfield and I couldn’t resist this piece - Looks like it’s hard to find.
A few shots of the layout at Hobby Nook in Smithfield NC. Selection is OK. Lots of Woodland Scenics materials a few buildings in HO and N. A modest selection of N and HO “rolling stock.”
