The hoods and walkway are plastic. The car itself is metal, probably zinc. That's what has me so confused. I thought about zinc rot but it's not crumbling. My guess is it took a dive at some point and I have blocked out the trauma of it all. However, all my layout rooms prior to the current one have had carpet. This one doesn't but this is the first time I have gotten this car out to run on the new layout. Who knows.

That's a good idea actually. Rust it up a bit and put a few weeds around it maybe?

Wasn't going to get these but broke down. They will go great with the solar system cats. Not much on the Zodiac stuff but do like the constilations

I found it interesting that two of the cars had this little note about the artwork in with them

Another project that is going on is adding this pump jack to the layout.
    20211219_122224a.JPG

It was in the left over bin from my old layout and needed a new home. So, I decided that it might just work here.
    20211219_142702.jpg

I had just enough Gold Metal Models chain link fence in the parts box to fit around it. Here is the test fit.
    20211230_144109.jpg

Currently working on a gravel drive from the road to the pumpjack and mounting the fencing. Hopefully I can get that part finished up this weekend and then start on a couple of small oil storage tanks to go there with it.

Next up is this pair of pup trailers that I am posting for no reason other than just to poke George.

Yeah, yeah, I know it's mean and uncalled for........... :D

    I don't get the joke, but I digress... :p

I like the scene, but I think it can be improved some. The pumpjack needs to be less weedy I think, based on what I have seen, and while I have seen hundreds of these I have no photos. I have seen some weeds in oil pump areas, but usually it's bare dirt or gravel at the best. They tend to get enough maintenance work or traffic that the site around it, fenced or not, is fairly bare. Here's one that comes to mind, viewed off the BNSF Grenora Sub north of Stanley, ND. I donno what you see back in GA, but YMMV! *plink, plink* https://goo.gl/maps/K2t5prwUSqpfjpSH9

Nice additions; it just keeps getting better!

Do you remember the manufacturer/vendor for the pump jack (I don't have access to your parts box or old layout...) ?

Gravel is used to allow heavy vehicles and service equipment to move around on the site in all (most?) weather conditions. Gravel locks together to strengthen the surface to support the weight of the vehicles and equipment moving on it. Gravel also helps prevent erosion. Gravel drains the moisture below the surface, leaving the dry rocks to provide traction for vehicles. Gravel is sometimes "dressed" (lightly stirred up) to ensure dirt and grass/weeds to not take hold and cover the gravel and keep water from draining. Sometimes, chemical vegetation control is applied. Vegetation loosens the soil, and increases its ability to retain water, both of which are counter to the function of the work surface.

Of course, in some areas of the country, all you have to do is scrape off the vegetation and topsoil, and you have a gravel surface ready (to be compacted if necessary) for use. But if such a surface is below surrounding grade, and sufficient drainage is not provided, it will not support repeated heavy loads.

One of the tenets of civil engineering is "water and dirt make mud" which is bad, because another tenet of civil engineering is "if it moves, it's broken". Mud moves, especially under load.

The pump jack is a Walthers kit. This one is non operational but could be motorized if I had all the parts. They do make one that is pre built and already motorized. Somewhere in the future, I may replace this one with an operational one.

It's okay, George doesn't get it either. I will make it up to him someday :D

You are right that it is a bit weedy. Gravel and some other detail around will help it look better. Hopefully that will happen this weekend. For now with hat test fit, I feel like it will all come together okay soon . :)

And thanks for all the kind words guys. Much appreciated.

LOL...its just that I am in need of a couple pup trailers for my warehouse because longer trailers wont fit the space. He is rubbing it in that he has some and I dont. Yeah...kinda mean...but all in fun. (y)

Well, been a bit but a little more progress around the pumpjack. These tanks are just a mock up for now to see how it would look. Some extra gravel helped and next I should maybe add some dirt out to the edges of the fences. Weeds along the fence fits okay based on some pics I have seen on line.
    20220130_121222.jpg

Not sure if I like the color or the size of the panels for the tanks either. Maybe when I level them and add a couple of pipes, I might like it better. If not, then it will be back to the drawing board.

These pics didn't come out so great but here are some new residents on the layout.

A family of deer. I'm sure that driver is a little nervous about the being so close to the road.
    20220130_115325a.JPG

And over here, we have a family of bears. Even though one looks like he's waving, the road crew is keeping an eye on them to make sure they stay on the other side of the tracks.
    20220130_120218a.JPG

Also added a new used car to the layout. According to the previous owner, it's low mileage and was only driven from time to time. :D

Okay, okay, I'll just crawl back under my rock now...........

The used DeLorean looks good (y) As long as the new owner is stuck in that kind of traffic he wont get the surprise of his life because he wont be able to get to 88 MPH...;):D:LOL:

LOL, for sure too much traffic on the layout to open her up a bit.

I know I have way too many cars on the layout but I can't help it. There was another DeLorean in the set that is in the flying config. Would probably be fun to figure out a way to hang it near the top of the skyline instead of sitting up top like this.

How about a metal L bracket under and beside the car and a magnet behind the back ground? Then you could put it were ever.
