Anyone know what scale from picture? Would I have to cut them down? Could I cut them in half and use them? I guess hedges in real life are different sizes so I can do what I want too? Same with the other items in the pack. This it was $9.99 and Might be 40% OFF, but not sure!
In general hedges were grown as 'fences' and ranged from a few feet to more mature at 10'+ So, sure, whatever 'feels' right.
Hobby Lobbys website shows them to be 'O' scale. But then again...like already posted...hedges are all different sizes. It looks like they could be cut down to fit a scene in n scale.
Yeah they stopped the coupon, but now sometimes they have 40% off on an entire section or category. How I got my Warthog 1:72 for 40%, as it was for all models. If your not sure, you just have to ask now! Which I didn't ask, but I think it would be 40% OFF each plastic model as opposed to one with the coupon? But like I said, I didn't ask, but will next time I am there!
Unless there is a yellow "your price" sticker which means no discount of any kind, any time, any where. More and more big box craft stores are changing prices to the "non discount" variety.
HL did drop the coupons, promising that they would return, but since Michaels ended theirs also there is little incentive to bring back the 40 percent off.
in2tech - Back to your original question, I suggest you consider how large your hedge would be in real life, then determine how large it should be in N-scale, then decide if the Hobby Lobby item in your photos can be easily cut down to the needed size. Note: Everyday objects in N-scale are often really small! A real-life example: In front of our house, we have some boxwood plants that are about 3 feet high and 3 feet wide, or 36 x 36 inches. Since N-scale is 1/160th actual size, the corresponding size for an N-scale layout would be: 36/160 = 0.225 inch So the correct size for a 3 x 3 foot boxwood in N-scale is 0.225 x 0.225 inch. If those boxwoods from Hobby Lobby can be easily trimmed down to that size, then perhaps you can use them. Or if you want a larger hedge on your layout -- say 8 feet tall -- the correct dimension would be 0.6 inch. Part of your decision-making depends on how accurately you want to model your little section of the world. You are free to make your hedges, or anything else, any size you want. It's your layout, after all! - Jeff
So even the Scenic Express hedges are made to cut to size. So I'll probably get hose and cut them, or try to make some? Lot's of tutorials about making your own. Still haven't decided yet. But I would like to have some hedges for N Scale.
How about using pipe cleaners. Or as named at Walmart 'FUZZY STICKS'. They are about the right size and come is several colors. 25 12inchers to a pack.
Looks like I'll be looking for scouring pads, or similar at the dollar store soon A bunch of videos on making them and super simple and cut to the height you like! And cheap as I have the Woodland Scenics ground stuff to add to them after some white glue Looks simple anyway? One of many videos on making them!
LOL, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was about HL investing/divesting in N scale! (Hedge being a verb in investing) The stock market's had a good bit of my attention the last few days...
I just noticed I got some spongy foam with the EveModel houses I received. Guess what I am going to ry and make Yes, N scale hedges from it! We will see if it works?
So real 6 foot hedges should be 1/8" in N Scale? I'm trying with this calculator and taking the feet, converting to inches, dividing by 160 and then using this conversion chart? This is correct, right? https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/inches-decimal-equivalents-d_471.html
i2t, Do you have an n scale ruler. If not, I would highly recommend you get one. All the math has been done. Just use the ruler tpo measure off what ever you want. be well, Carl
