I am looking for a photo of either the NW 1710 or the DRGW 3556. This is actually the same locomotive. The 1710 was sold to the DRGW which then rr numbered it to the 3556. If anyone has a photo of this locomotive you you be willing to share it with me? Thanks!

I looked through two N&W books I have without luck. Neither does the N&WHS doesn't offer photos of the 1710. The 1710 was one of only six Y2a Class on the N&W, a small count amongst the great many others in the Y Class. If I think of other resources, I'll take a look.

I tried my fav spot, the Denver Public Library Western History Collection, and struck out. It usually has great view from the likes of W.H Jackson, Robert Richardson, Otto Perry, and others, but not for this engine. I did however find:

    3554: https://digital.denverlibrary.org/digital/collection/p15330coll22/id/53271/rec/1 https://digital.denverlibrary.org/digital/collection/p15330coll22/id/53268/rec/2

    3553: https://digital.denverlibrary.org/digital/collection/p15330coll22/id/53273/rec/3

https://digital.denverlibrary.org/digital/collection/p15330coll22/search/order/title/ad/asc for more searches. You may find more engines of the L-109 class.

Is the N&W 1711 close enough, or was there something unique about the 1710?

Another of the 1711 if Point's suggestion will work.

I checked on George Elwood's "Fallen Flags" site but the closest was another Y-2a, #1716. Here's the link to that photo:

    https://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nw/nw-s1716adb.jpg

Fallen Flags also has a photo of a former N&W engine in the same DRGW uniform and possibly class, #3551. Here's the link for that one:

Several years ago, FWIW, there was a collection of N&W photos accessed through a site sponsored by Virginia Tech University but I don't recall the site or anything after all these years. As I recall they had some steam and early diesel photos and for me that was good enough. Anyway, good luck and good hunting in your search.

Don't know if it will help but last week, I took a picture of this picture that was hanging on the wall of a diner in NYC. It's a Y6b so not exactly what you were looking for but shows some unique N&W detail
