...for me, it is the NSE Central Vermont Coast Guard GP9 and Caboose.

What are you still looking for?

Wheels of Time commuter cars in Southern Pacifc dark lark. Last run was 20 or so years ago? Anybody need a kidney or a heart valve?
Also, the Area 51 set that Micro Trains did a few years ago.

A small fleet of Milwaukee Road Little Joes.

I know there's a brass version and a 3D printed option, but the brass is impossible to find and the 3D requires reworking a chassis.

I can narrow it down to two things:

    1) Nucomp trailer park kit. N scale. The old kit with 6 mobile homes. I come across them as singles every now and again. I enjoy putting kits together-the pre-builts and card stock don’t really do it for me.

    2) Metra 211-an F40PH-3 in the CBQ heritage scheme. I’ve got Kato’s MP36 Metra heritage schemes for RI, MILW, and State of Illinois. I’ve got the Athearn’s F59 Metra CNW heritage on order.

I think I could get a donor Kato F40 chassis/frame, some Metra CBQ decals, and then a 3D printed shell and try to do it myself. Might try it someday.

The smaller engines, boxcars and tankers. Mainly those used in the state of Wisconsin or neighbors. Not antiques.

Atlas's CNJ hack in N Scale. Released in 2016, these quickly sold out. They're rarely found today and sell at prices that I'm not ready to pay.

I'd like that Atlas CNJ caboose as well. It certainly looks better than the Life-Like NE style caboose released years ago. I'd be ok if Bachmann released their NE style caboose painted for CNJ. Not sure why they haven't, since they have released a CNJ GP-7 and and 0-6-0.

However, the Holy Grail for me would be a brass PRR J1 2-10-4. They pop up eBay occasionally. I hear that BLI is planning to release one within the next few years.

What puzzles me is why Atlas doesn't release a second round of their best sellers in this series? The artwork is done and there'd be no investment in new tooling. I completely agree with your appraisal of the Life-Like model.

A Pennsylvania Railroad E-44 electric, which has never been made in N (I think there were shells but I want a ready to run version.

One of the few pieces I am keeping from my Dad's HO Scale accumulation is the Alco Models brass version, which dates to the late 1960s.

    N-scale C&O 2-10-4 T1 Texan.
I have three N-scale Allegheny H-8 locomotives. I believe two of them were Matt Shaefer's (Northern Virginia NTrak) as his name was scribed on the inside of the tender.

    1) SDP40 shell to build BN Bicentennial. Ordered one from Shapeways. Haven't received it yet, so it's still on the list !!!
    2) Lowell Smith "Ferdinand Magellan" presidential car.
    3) M/T Tie Loader set in their old "MOW" scheme with GP/SW- something to pull it.
    4) M/T "Area 51" set before Traindork finds it !!!
    5) GT passenger cars
    6) PC Flexi-vans
    7) If any of these are ever available, would prefer to receive them within the same decade I order them !!!

For me it would be a Norfolk & Western Class J locomotive built by Kato, with the N&W passenger cars to go with it also from Kato.

In modern times it would be AFFORDABLE Bombardier bi-level coaches painted for New Mexico Rail Runner. I need 10 to 12 (with 2 cab cars in the mix) to make my 2 locomotives happy.

Frisco N scale MT tank cars. They show up very rarely and are high priced. Kicking myself for not purchasing when during first release, sold out quickly.
