My roster is growing daily. This is my latest acquisition. A BLI 2-8-2 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Three more! These will need a little modification. I need to change the reporting Marks and numbers. This is a 2-6-0 and two 0-6-0’s Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No phhotos yet. Just recieved an older Athearn UP SW7. Older, since it has Steel flywheels and Metal truck frames! And a NOS short hood, to convert an extra shell into a UP calf unit. Now, I need to find recommendations for replacement motor, and DCC/Sound board. Plan to install both in the Calf unit, for the space! and jump headlights and motor controls via jumpers between units. Need to know what DCC/Sound unit is suggested as well as LED's for replacing headlights. What size? Eventually, the UP name and numbers will be erased, with an air eraser and baking soda and relettered/numbered for my own road. But maintain UP paint. However, the short hood will be primered first, then pressed into service! Locomotive was needed in service ASAP, so paint shop didn't get in completely painted!
Yesterday went to the Raleigh (NC) Train Show. Purchased a couple of building kits. Also got an Athearn Genesis refer for like $8 and a "Western NC Railroad" hopper. The WNCRR was a small line in western NC that was only like 140 miles or so. The Northern Virginia Model Railroaders (Vienna, VA) has based their layout on this line as if it is still active as a major link. I think they have a history of it on their website. They had cars decaled back in the day and I never got one. I lived up there for 20+ years and used to go over to the club for shows about 2 or 3 times a year. AWESOME club layout in the old WO&D depot in Vienna. Saw the hopper for $10 bucks and for sentimental reasons scarfed it up. Needs a new brake wheel and some metal wheels. Other than that it looks great.
I was almost finished painting my Varney Docksider when I decided that the bell should be brass colored and not black. I was stuck because out of the dozens of various paints that I have, including silver, gold, and two shades of copper, I didn't have anything that qualified as "brass" and neither did my local train store. But today my package from hobbylinc came so I am officially un-stuck. Now I just have to decide which *shade* of brass I like better. Also arriving was a box of 20 Titchy trucks for use as I work on older freight cars. I have a decent supply of metal wheels so the plastic ones will stay in their package, but some of the older trucks simply cannot be reused. Sent from my SM-A716U using Tapatalk
Just picked up this little Balboa Precision Models HOn3 Brass 2-8-0. This will make a nice static display on this side powered piece of track. Just got the box car as well. I already had the idea idler flat and the gondola that I built a few years ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks Kevin. A very interesting story about how the Flying "Rio Grande" was conceived. A whole story on its own.
Another pair of Jouef tourist coaches, to make room for holiday goers in search of the Loch Ness Monster. Tram by Rapido.
Not a purchase but I recently Custom upgraded my Athearn BNSF SW1500 switcher to DCC with sound plus LED... it was originally a $70 purchase on eBay before the pandemic price hike. Now it looks and runs like a $300 locomotive. Here's the Video Link: (Please Like The Video if you check it out) And picture below. Sent from my SM-G781U using Tapatalk
That looks and sounds familiar from my early days. Green Bay and north in the '60s and '70s. Only I believe they would have been earlier models. Rich
Two LifeLike Proto 2000 locos in Great Northern colors that I picked up at a train show. Like new in their boxes. Cost me $100 for the two. I’ve become a big fan of these locomotives for their cost to performance value. Now I just need to do some DCC/sound conversions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Any more realistic and you'd have to get a permit! Noticed a little repurposed Tyco in the mix- looks good.
