I have been trying to figure this out on and off for awhile now. I think the cable from the PR3 to the laptop may be fubar. I am one of those guys who says... "I have a dozen of those cables around...somewhere"...:LOL:

    Well...:censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored:

the decoder in THE Wifes Kato E5A is toast !

I found a resistor that somehow became unsoldered and was just sitting on the frame !!

Not only do I have NO idea where it came off of...there is NO way in Hades I would ever be able to resolder something that small back on...:mad::censored:

Now I just have to find a replacement decoder.... No clue what i need...*sigh* :(

Unsoldered due to excessive heat is the likely answer. That is a transistor and betting that is where the power goes out to the motor.

Is that the decoder that came with the loco? Snap a pic?

Digitrax quality control is not the best, before the move to their new facility, they used old pizza ovens to solder their decoder boards. That is a big reason I had to stop using them and move on to TCS, Zimo and ESU decoders.

Wow, how long you had it? Cause I bought the Zephyr DCC set just a short time ago. That is indeed the decoder that is in mine, DN163KOE. Is it under warranty? I actually have not run mine much as I am working on the layout. Good luck, hope you get it working for her soon.

THE KNOTTVARRY Cold Storage Co.is a 3rd generation cold storage company. It was founded way back when by 'Somwatt Knott Varry'. She is a very...very distant relative to the 'Knott' family of California fame. That's my story and I'm sticking to it !!!;)

My special run UMTRR car came in today. It is looking good over at the 'team track' with my TB special run car.

    Very nice scene!

I really like the layered rock in the background. How did you do that? Whisk broom on wet plaster/material?

What is that yellow & brown equipment on the wooden loading ramp?

The layered look is sheetroock mud spread over window screen. Then it was 'raked' at an angle with a hair barrette...something like this...

The piece of equipment on the dock is an ugly fork lift I got from somewhere. The 'forks' broke off a long time ago. It is now just a placeholder until I find something better.

Whisk brooms, combs, hair picks, barrettes; whatever works! And work it did!

And that explains why I thought that object on the ramp might be a fork lift, but could not see the forks!
