Those that sold national brands and the local Farmer' Co-Op Gas Stations did. Some others did sell the trinkets as well.
I had one of these when I was a kid in the early '60s and it was one of my very favorite toys. We lived close to Chesapeake Bay at the time, so my tanker routinely sailed in salt water in summer seasons. As the box reads, it was battery powered, you could position the rudder with your fingers and there were little wheels on the bottom. I might also remember a slot of the bottom of the hull that would allow some water to enter and lower the boat's height in the water. This isn't my model.
Okay, I was going by the current route of I-49 (formerly US 71 in that area), but it splits and takes two alternate routes through Joplin and Carthage, MO. Thanks for the clarification.
Wow, look at all the details in this photo, perfect for the modelers making 50's gas station! When was the last time you pulled up to a gas pump, and there was a '57 T-bird AND a '57 Chevy there?!
I wouldn't mind the T-Bird... I like the pick-em-up truck there too. Note what seems to be a Hudson dealership on the left. I might just mosey on down there to see what they have.
There was something like it on a secondary highway in Ontario, running north from Lake Ontario. I don't remember exactly where except it was not close to Toronto. People at the southern end of the road could see, once in a while at night, lights appearing and disappearing, sometimes aimed at the sky, sometimes bright and seemingly aimed at the observers. In the end, it was discovered that car headlights on high beam on an unlit stretch of road quite a distance up from there produced the phenomenon. The hilly terrain and the straight road made them visible for miles and miles, and of course caused the on-off effect. Some still believe there's some kind of hocus-pocus going on.
I'll take the 'hocus-pocus'. It's much more fun. Especially with a friend along. The rail road was some of it. Similar lights.
But the trike is the wrong color. Mine was black and white. 74cid, foot clutch and three speed hand shift. Is that truck an International Harvester?
The Servi-Car is not the wrong color. It's Texaco red, just like the Job Rated Dodge with the Pilot House Cab which fetches the larger parts. And it does not have 74 ci. Try 45 of them.
My first was a USA Scout that was 45cid/750cc (Chopper). Second wasn't a Servi-Car and it was a flat head 74cid/1200cc. The previous owner kept the box for a show piece in his gas station. Then I got a 74cid Pan Head. Along with a 750cc (Snorton) Norton. Then off to service and Jap bikes since. Until now it's Chinese. My last truck was a '98 Stellantis Dakota. Dad's was a '46 one ton Dodge Dually. But what is shown looks like an IH heavy duty. Have a nice Halloween. Rich
The Texaco truck looks like the Dodge to me. The little wrap around rear window panel, the position of the door handle and the fender flairs.
