I have heard of this happening with a few other folks, this style of lid/applicator. I had it happen recently as well. Leads me to believe the quality of material is not as good as it used to be...
Agreed. Used to be that the plastic cap would reject the glue's adhesion. With this new reality in mind, I've been religiously rinsing out my wood glue cap after each use. Like BNSF FAN, I keep unused spares on hand just in case. I try not to waste supplies; even simple glues have gotten expensive.
You guys are right. This was one of the newer tops and the glue does seem to stick to them more than on the older ones. I have several old ones so a replacement wasn't a problem. I also got lucky that this happened on a bottle that was only about 1/3 full. Otherwise, I would have probably had a big spill/mess going on.
Actual paint scheme done by NS back in I think late 2013? At one point for a short time, this car even carried a N Scale Enthusiast logo on the upper right corner. This is the the Atlas version but there was also a special run of it done by M/T for the N Scale Enthusiast (maybe I'll score that version someday). There are a fair number of pics of the car on line and based on the dates for some of those pictures, it appears that it is still out and roaming the rails in this scheme.
Okay, I didn't realize I hadn't posted an update since early October. Wow, time can fly. Of course, there really hasn't been much to post. Ove this past weekend, I did do a few little things. I had about 2/3 of a package of JTT tree branches like this which actually make decent small N scale tree that were just begging to be used. So, I found them a home. I started with this space. I filled in the small space between the road and the backdrop first. Then filled in that space between the two tracks I think it turned out okay
There were still just a few of the trees left so decided to add them here This was the last of them and I think that will probably be all the trees I will add to the layout Next up, I picked up some W/S bush clumps Friday after work and decided I'd go ahead and start using them. I poured out a tray of each color and grabbed my bottle of glue. Ummmm, so the glue part didn't get off to a good start. Broke another top Fortunately I had another spare top for the glue bottle but also realized I was almost out of glue. Using what I had, I started here. Didn't take much to change that spot And then I continued on down the other side of the crossing until I ran out of glue. Not sure it looks quite how I was planning but it is better than what it was I think? Guess I'll get some more glue today, finish up that strip of land and see where I go from there.
That trip pin in the middle of the road looks like the scrap train needs to pick it up... The tie piles are a neat touch. The additional foliage you added makes it look less like a golf course, perfectly trimmed and all. Nice work!
Thanks sir. It is exactly the golf course look that I am trying to get away from in some areas. There is an under track uncoupler magnet by that crossing (the signal cabinet is my marker for it) and I found that trip pin between the rails there. Now I have to figure out what car it came off off I thought the tie piles were neat as well. They just need a little weathering. Don't remember where i picked them up. I think maybe they were from a now gone source.
Sounds like you are where I am. Sceney pretty much done and just enjoying running trains. Like you...I also am 'planting' left over trees around the layout. It is nice to be done enough that I can enjoy running trains and just relax. .
All of the trees look fantastic Richard, I like a lot of trees on a layout even though I'm originally from Albuquerque where there's not many trees. Joe
It's nice on one hand and makes it tougher to decide wat to do next at the same time. Of course, mine still has a long way to go to reach the level of T.H.E. RR Thanks so much Joe! I look and think I have added just about the right amount of trees at this point. Even though it would probably look good, if I add more, it's going to get hard to see the trains
After picking up some new bottles of Elmer's glue yesterday, I got started on a little more scenery work. I finished up the strip I was working on when I ran out of glue. Then filled in some space around the substation and power line tower. And started on this bigger open area but stopped after this little bit. I have this whole big space and I feel like it needs something other than just a big open field but just can't figure out what might work there. From there, I went back to the workbench to refilled my trays so I'm all set for more. Fun times
For that small area, a dog park? Or maybe a large billboard and a crew putting in a new image (billboard, truck, two workers...)
I’ve got a few small areas that I’ve filled in different ways. I turned one into a playground at my children’s request. I have a different corner where people have been dumping trash. The trash is mainly leftover kit parts that are broken or otherwise unsuitable for future kitbashes, bits of balsa, and a resin scrap pile that I picked somewhere. In a very small spot, a sheriff’s deputy has thrown up a speed trap. . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
@BNSF FAN what is the color of your fascia? I'm not happy with the forest green on mine, too glossy. Joe
When I get down to the train room later Joe, I'll find the sample chip and send you a pic along with the name and number for the paint. It came from Lowes. Yesterday, I continued with the scenery theme. This one small corner and space by the corn got some attention first. Better? I have an idea for that empty space behind the tower but I'm not quite ready to get started on it yet. Still need to plan it out and gather materials. Probably going on my 2022 project list. Turned next to this area. Forgot to take a pic before I started and as you can see, the glue got loose. Worked out okay though after I spread it a little better and covered it with bushes. At this point I had just about exhausted my two packs of ground cover. Took what I had left and worked in this corner some. Sometimes it amazes me how such little additions like this ground cover can really make a big change in how things look. Hopefully for the better in this case. Now, I'm not sure what will be next. Pretty much done on scenery until I can pick up another pack or two of ground cover.
First I do enjoy the images of your layout and handywork. But, I'm a little curious about why you include the bottle of glue. I do recall the broken top. But Rich
I like how you have so many interesting scenes yet you separate them with enough scenery or by other means that it doesn't seem crowded. Good job Sumner
