Nearing the end of time this day. Foggy, rainy. Damp and drab. A perfect match for the mood on Lines West. Work Extra 5052 East pauses at the Cedar Falls, Washington depot. She is en route up Snoqualmie Pass for a day picking up scrap metals:

    "Driving Rain at Milepost Three"
It's hard to imagine rain coming down sideways, but for the minute I stood on my tailgate to bag this shot of an eastbound local, I was soaked to the bone by the rain. A good indicator of the wind is in the bushes; the leaves are laying back significantly from the strong winds.

MOW crews at the time were also working on tie replacement and one crewman gives a rollby inspection as BNSF 1974 and company roll past. There's also a Form B in effect with lots of bell and whistle, but it's not like I could hear it over the howling gale!

Just more than thirty years ago, BN SD40-2 #8142 had a wet and cold westward (south) Intermodal in tow nearing Sumner, Washington:

Love going down here on my days off for a bit. The good ol' days of BN!:D
That field is still there on the left, but just outta' the pic to the left is nothing but concrete and warehouses, but you can park on the other side of the tracks now, so bonus place to park.;)

Nice contrast of the old and the new. That old stone/masonry viaduct is a classic.:)

Hmmm. That bush or tree growing from the structure's side will eventually break out (spall) pieces of the fascia. Which will fall onto...?

It is my intention to reproduce that viaduct from this angle. Argh! having trouble uploading. Will try again.
Yes, that area is surounded by trees and brush as it borders on the 'Arnold Arboretum'. Stone Arch Viaduct 1.png

It is a very lousy weather day for grabbing any photos. Windy, foggy, dark and heavy rain at times. But I saw this and decided to waste a minute. Two BNSF C44-9W are DPU on train G-ELRLVW9-26. (Soybeans, Eldridge, ND to Longview, WA.) Numbers 4625, 4769 await the call to push their train on west:
