I want to replace the trucks on some Bachmann freight cars. I have no idea what will fit and what will not fit. I know some brands use different size connections. How do I know what works with what? Any information/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
It is hard to tell with out photos. But If your Bachmann cars use screws to mount the trucks newer Bachmann truck with metal wheels should fit. Fitting different trucks will most time work, but may need modifications like washers or drilling out the opening. If they are snap mount truck ,then it is hard to do with out more work. I have swapped trucks many times even moved the mounting points . All depends on how much work you want to put in. Sometimes is easier to change out the floor like in box cars .
I just replaced the trucks on an older Bachmann flat car with the snap-in trucks. I just filed an old parks sprue down and glued it in the hole. Once the glue dried, I cut off the sprue and filed it flat and drilled a new hole and installed the new trucks. On the newer screw mount trucks, I’ve noticed that none of the metal wheels I’ve tried fit right. You could try a truck tuner from Micro Mark, but no guarantee if that will fix it.
