Go to these folk's site and they are experts at dealing with this stuff so they say. I notice a lot of their stuff is Lionel. Lionel price on a N gauge shell.

May be interested when I come closer to affording such things. But would prefer what I see locally.

I have no longer have any close by, either. Once per year, I can do a 260 mile round trip. Or another at a 395 mile RT. Beyond those, the next closest are 490 mile RT or 665 mile RT...

I wish I had better access to train shows. My nearest good train show is sponsored by a club and is three hours away, so I'm looking at six hours of drive time in one long day or a pricey hotel room. I have two nearby shows a year sponsored by a travelling train show promoter, but they're mostly Lionel and the balance is junky HO and N throwaways.

Years ago I used to make the long drive to Atlanta for an excellent annual show. I'd meet friends there, we'd share the cost of a hotel room, see the show and go railfanning afterwards. We always had a blast and I miss those times. We quit going when hotel rates and gasoline costs skyrocketed and the venue was moved to a luxury hotel where a parking fee was charged on top of the show fee.

Sheesh you folks are willing to drive far to get to the shows. Up here we got quite a few within 100 km (60 mil) radius.

Ok...we used to have those shows pre C-19, hopefully they come back some day in the not so distant future.

Here's something you don't see every day -- an Arnold locomotive in a package with a Minitrix music box, all for $299.95. The Seller advises "This is an amazing set, you’ll be lucky if you ever find another one." Sure, that's because a set like this was never produced. I think the spot where the locomotive is placed once held the case for the music box.

Yah! Living in and very near Milwaukee gave me many opportunities. Besides Green Bay was only 90 miles and near were I grew up. It had big shows as well. Now it's about 25 miles. But no transportation and the only local is at the National Guard Armory. Rather small and the quality is like that internet site we love.
Mail order isn't much fun either. But still have the itch.

I think that is actually a locomotive case. To begin with, Trix/Minitrix aren't exactly known for music boxes, they are known for trains. Googling "minitrix 66110" I found a few more samples of that music box. The other examples did not have a locomotive, but a couple did have the plastic cradle for it. That, and even more so the fact that the pictures on the box do not show the locomotive, lead me to believe the locomotive was not included, but the fact that the cradle fit the box so well makes me think it was actually made for it. One of the sites I found it on said "Suitable for Minitrix SBB Re 460 Swiss Collection 2 locomotive" Googling "minitrix sBB Re 460" I came across a locomotive sold by Trix that had an image of a music box works on the side:

Yes, it says Marklin on the side, but it was sold by Trix:

(Notice it's the Swiss Collection, and the music box is number 2 in the series, which matches the description above)

That actually might be worth some money. The name on the bottom, "Reuge Music", is the compnay that made the mechanism. Apparently their music boxes are pretty expensive.

Interesting research @CSX Robert! You've found much more about the item(s) than the eBay Seller and things now make more sense. Definitely a unique offering; we'll see if it translates into $300.

Even living in a big town like Sacramento, we only get one train show a year (GATS) and that has very little N scale (mostly HO and Lionel) and even less at 'realistic' prices (defined as below full retail). One large N scale seller that seems to always be there triples his prices on junk (old 'vintage' MP, Lima, Bachmann, LL, etc from the 70s) then has signs saying how everything is 50% off. A junk F unit for 'only' $30 after the 50% off. There are one or two other shows within 100 miles, but its just the same people selling the same thing (GATS). We usually have our modules there, but watching the people come into the show, they have the same look in their eyes as lambs being led into the slaughterhouse...
