Did anyone else see the Youtube announcement that Kato is re-runninh the FEF-3 in Greyhound paint with 8444 road number? Looks like I am going to end up with 4 of FEF-3's now. Hope it's available from KOBO shops.
They have it on their website, and it looks like a normal release, not just a KOBO custom: https://www.katousa.com/N/FEF/index.html The sound version looks like a KOBO unit though, based on the 'built to order' note at the bottom. I didn't realize 844 ever wore this scheme, I guess the number of fantasy Mikados in Greyhound make me skeptical every time I see it.
Yes, the Greyhound paint started in late 1945 and lasted through 1952 on UP Passenger steam locomotives. This obviously included the FEF 4-8-4 locomotives but also included some Challengers that were used on hilly passenger train routes in WA/OR and on the route to Los Angeles, (Union Pacific Trackside-Schmitz). Afterwards, all UP steam paint was black. The exception was 844(4) which initially received the Greyhound paint in its preserved role. - Tonkphilip
I didn't buy one of the first run(s)...don't know why for sure, just didn't pull that trigger. Greyhound, on the other hand...I might have to get me one of these.
Same thing here. I hate to turn away from a kato steam but I figure I had enough then this is announced.
