Progress on the autorack. Managed to somewhat repair the broken panels plus some minor adaptation to two of them. Two of the same, one with the original panels and one with the Plano panels. Thinking I will try and give them another shot just in case I got a random set with issues. May do the cut outs behind the panels on the next one for some variety. Of course, a spray of flat finish and possibly some weathering will also help.

A few trees were installed yesterday.

I started with two packs of JTT small trees (These would be great tree branches for the O and G scale folks :) ) and some open space.

Next I found a pack of Woodland Scenics trees I had completely forgotten I had.

    20210703_152516a.jpg

I then opened them and separated the colors befor heading back to the layout.

Out in a few on each side of the electrical substation.

I'm thinking this might be my next tree area

    20210704_090046.jpg

Still lots of area where I need to do more with the ground cover but I am just not sure what yet...……..

I see that the Jenny Building is still up for lease. Great looking work on the auto rack and trees!

    I like the grain elevators!

I've noticed a lot of elevators over the years on road trips between DFW and SLC (mostly in TX). I'm mostly interested in the smaller, corrugated metal silos, and on this last trip, I noticed that the larger-diameter metal silos often have larger corrugations than the smaller diameter silos.

This means I might get away with using a combination of N and HO scale silos on my N scale layout. Looks like I need to buy some Rix silos, etc. and experiment a bit...

    Thank you sir! :)

I think that using an HO Rix corrugated bin paired with some of the N scale ones would make a good looking scene Andy. I had some of the N scale ones but ended up not having a good spot to use them and now they have a good home with another TB member.

As for the big concrete grain elevators, I have always been impressed by them and wanted one on the layout even if it is totally freelanced.

Over this past weekend, I helped as my son finished up his eagle project on Saturday and that about wiped me out. On Sunday, I went down to the layout and broke out the last of the trees I had on hand.
    20210711_085913.jpg

I spent a lot of time staring at the layout trying to decide what space I wanted to put these in. I did install a few but not enough to merit a picture. Maybe next weekend I'll be more into setting the trees. While some trains ran, I turned my attention to the workbench. I cleaned up the mess I had from several recently completed projects and now it is pretty much empty.
    20210711_083140.jpg

Not really sure what I will start on next. There is a coach and 40ft box car that have been sitting on the left side for a bit that could use some MoW lettering. The military vehicles are just awaiting an Indian ink wash on the treads to add a little contrast but I haven't been to the store to get some Indian ink and bottles of 70% alcohol to use. Those would be two projects I could get finished up this coming weekend if I get motivated.

Isn't there a law against having a desk that clean and neat? :p:D:D:D

There is the "Law of Reciprocity" which states that for every clean desk or workbench there must be two desks or workbenches that assume the role of "Yikes! There are things living here".

Not much going one lately with the layout. Just little stuff here and there. I have at least had a few trains running from time to time. Some recent accomplishments have been getting this group of hoppers updated to metal wheels.
    immt.JPG

And this one got new M/T roller bearing trucks and couplers along with metal wheels
    CNWX110029.JPG

And this is a bad pic but thought it was cool that I found a car I forgot I had. This St Mary's RR box car. A bit ironic since I just visited the real St. Mary's RR for the first back in late July.

Thanks Hemi! Not really a good pic of it and it does look better in person. Even at that, I'm still not really that happy with it. Hopefully a little more weathering will do the trick.

Still working on trees here and there. I started with this space.

    20210905_080021.jpg

Used about 2/3rd's of what trees I had left here between the edge of the farm and the right of way for the transmission lines.

    20210905_085818.jpg

Starting again on the other side of the transmission lines right of way, I added most of what I had left

    20210905_093346.jpg

That fit the space pretty well. I have just a few left and not sure where they will go. Now I just have to figure out what to do with that space across the track.

There was one interesting issue before I got started on the trees. It had to do with a bottle of white glue. I was bad and didn't clean the top after the last time I used it so it was stuck shut. I flacked some of the dried glue off and proceeded to pull the lid open. I got a bit of a surprise

    20210905_093309.jpg

Probably don't need to say any more about that. Fortunately, I had an extra top to replace it with.

The trees look fantastic! I like that open space across the track. Maybe leave it that way with a couple of trees until you happen across a structure/scene you must have then you have a spot to put it.

No work on the layout for the last month or so. Don't know where the time goes. Hopefully I can get back to it in the next week or so and since it is October, I want to be able to get this new well car out on the rails. Managed to find it at a train show this past Saturday and at a fair price along with a NS Pier 6 car.

    20211003_123036.jpg

I also picked up a couple of packages of W/S underbrush that will hopefully be making it's appearance on the layout soon.
