Back in 1971, one of my high school buddies and I were going to school at various junior colleges in the area while still living at home with our parents. His afternoon job was working as a nurse's aide at the Galveston County Hospital. He worked with a number of black nurses and doctors so they invited him to a Juneteenth BBQ. He did not want to go alone so took me along. I had no idea what Juneteenth was but I got educated all about it there. We had a great time and returned the next year. Great food and great people.

As a foreigner, I hadn't heard about Juneteenth until it was mentioned in the radio news this morning. I think it's always good to remember and celebrate human rights. Hopefully it helps people to also apply them.

Anyway wish you all a good party.

N&W 4-8-0 #1118 still in the yard at Virginia Scrap Iron & Metal. The owner of the facility had traditionally held out for way more money than the locomotives in the collection, called the "Lost Engines of Roanoke", were worth whenever he was approached about selling one of them. After he passed away, his heirs donated them all to various museums. This engine was moved shortly after I took this photo on July 30, 2009. Two more 4-8-0s were in the brush to the right of it.

    "Glinting Deep Into Gassman"

At the tail end of golden hour, a Seattle or Portland-Chicago Z rolls quickly through the curves into Gassman Coulee near milepost 7 on BNSF Glasgow Sub. A parked empty eastbound grain train waits on the second main track. Photo from private property, with permission.

Wow, that's crazy to think these were still around just "hiding" in some bushes!!

Hopefully atleast one got a makeover and cleaned up, or even running condition?

I don't think any will ever be restored to running, but you never know. Here is one of them cosmetically restored in Portsmouth, Virginia. James D. Crawley photo.

Just need those six little numbers, and the Powerball to match, and you can do whatever you want!(y)

First thing I'd do if I won, was have the SD9 in Skykomish be fully rebuilt....

Wow... nice paint job! A little livelier than the one behind it. Almost New Haven-like.

They ought to adopt that for the rest of the fleet.

Pretty much a retro paint job recreated to resemble what was on the early E units.

Naturally the current day politicians and their media sycophants labeled the design, "The Pointless Arrow".

It looks way better than the more subdued, dare I say drab, tones of late. The slant of the line between the red and the black on the nose gives it a newer look.

It even makes those GE units look half decent!
