"Welcome home, dear. How did your work day go?" "Oh, pretty good. I got about half the boiler front bolts out." Doug
On Saturday, I passed through Greer, SC for the first time and found that the Piedmont & Northern's depot still stands and is being renovated. The P&N favored fine looking stucco and tile roofed stations and a small handful survive. This is the largest remaining, built in 1913 when the P&N was constructed. The P&N was an interurban and freight railroad built to steam road standards. It was bought by the SCL in 1969 and I think the tracks are still owned and operated by CSX. P&N wire came down in the early 1950s. Greer is also on the former SOU mainline; SOU's depot is gone.
Sadly, the P&N's Pelzer, SC depot was lost to fire in 2011. The structure's roof had failed long before and it was in terrible shape. I shot this photo in 2006.
I pushed "like" for Hardcoaler posting it, not for the content. Sometimes it's a bit difficult discerning, let alone disconcerting. Doug
KCS 4026 South splits the street through downtown Bellevue, IA on train CP 374. May 9, 2021 Video of the chase— Most people get drunk, others want sex but as for me, I go Railfanning.
This KCS Belle 3/4 front view makes her look so statuesque and proud. She's like a Grande Dame entering a majestic ballroom. WOW
I second that! And the merged CP-KCS should keep this color scheme. Way better than a big red barn with a beaver on it...
I think CP should adopt the script/maroon scheme instead of CP System Red and the newfangled beavers. Action Red is no longer in CP's vocabulary.
