Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a great weekend and got a lot done. Let's get started.

Saturday: As planned, I set off my friend Steve's place and after a drizzly, cold morning in the garage, we started to see the sunshine, the temps went up and so were the modules. We only had a few hiccups but overall we were in business. We are officially ready for next weekend! The wives stopped by at 6:15 and we all enjoyed dinner at a nearby Japanese restaurant.

Sunday: Ang and I got moving early and met Angela's Dad and Grandmother in Danville. From there, we all jumped into his F-150 and enjoyed a nice scenic drive to Noblesville Indiana to "Ford's Garage" a restaurant I had never heard of before. Fortunately, both her Dad and I wore Ford apparel! It is a neat themed restaurant, with Model A cars, racing memorabilia, engine displays and of course, good food and beer. It was nice to relax and geek out a bit about cars and start planning our car show routine for the summer. We got home and relaxed and before we knew it, the weekend was over.

So how about you? What did you get done? Let us know. We'll assemble again on the last day of April and plan our first weekend in May. Until then, have a great week, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

Saturday - We got the netting pulled off the pond. Had to rescue two fish that got caught in it. I saw another swimming in the pond. We know three of ten made it through the winter. I may have also located the part I need to finish the pond filter at Grainger. I will order it this morning. Wife sprained her ankle on Friday so I had to stay around could not do any running.

I did paint the parts that I needed painting for the Cinder Conveyor and Ash Pit kit. Tested a new locomotive.

Sunday – Since the kids were home, I did the grocery store run. Hung pictures and chimes in the newly painted master bathroom.

    No modeling.

Been a good weekend. I was able to
Finish the wiring on the 6 foot module on Friday.

Saturday I finished 129 trees. I need to build another 130 for the module.

I spent a total of 30 minutes in the train room slowly and carefully removing a siding that was already laid. I have acquired a small scratchbuilt locomotive shop from a MRR mentor, and so incorporating it requires two tracks instead of one. I have a RH curved turnout to angle it away from being parallel to the main, creating visual interest and more space by working on a diagonal. We will see how this goes.

    Good morning all,

It was a productive weekend at my messy workbench. Got all 5 of the flat cars finished that I have been working on for the past several weeks. The pair of TTDX F226 types plus 3 TTX F89X types. Also figured out how to get a red cross on the HUMVEE ambulance, masked and sprayed a white background then applied red stripe decals for the red cross. Created a little utility trailer from a cast resin pickup truck bed and worked on a few big trailers for the TTX flat cars. Also sprayed a batch of military models but not happy with the color match. Found and ordered a bottle of Model Master Gulf Armor Sand so will repaint to match the ones I already have. Got lots of photos but as TB is having problems with photos right now don't know if these are going to show. I think you have to click on each one below. This morning I go meet with the solar contractor to get that process started.

Well, spent all weekend in layout room:
    1. Put down 13’ of ballast on the double-track mainline.
    2. Got the base painted + base ground cover put in for the long dirt road scene.
    3. Didn’t work on anything else. Ballast and scenery work ate up more time than I planned. But it was well worth the the time!

Well - it was lack luster model RRing weekend.

Saturday: Fixed the mounting for a sand tower. And - ran a couple of trains for about 1/2 hour.

Sunday: Restarted a long dormant freight car project. Made some decent progress.

Hope Y'all had a great weekend,
    Wolf

Friday bowled a 205-226-229 for a 660 series, don’t know why I suddenly started bowling better the last two weeks of the season.

Saturday had our first club meeting since last August and found we are now allowed 6 people in the clubhouse if they are vaccinated. With that we can at least have some abbreviated operation sessions.

Managed to paint a 60’ boxcar and started decalling it and a 50’ boxcar. Also assembled a Bowser 1958cf covered hopper kit and painted it today.

Yep. Before I knew it, the weekend was over. Tried to get outside more. Less stuff done inside. I noticed Mr. Wiggin "set off" his friends place. If this is what he does to friends, I hope I stay on his good side. (y) All have a great week. :D

*Sigh* Well, very little activity. I attached stirrups on one car kit and that was about all that happened. So much for the best laid of plans. Better than nothing, I guess.

My only modeling goal for the weekend was to work on a screwdriver rack for the workbench. The backstory is my mother-in-law gave me several good quality, small screwdrivers for Christmas 2020. A much-appreciated gift which moved me from three choices to eleven. All have been residing in a box in a drawer since December. Not very handy for something I reach for almost daily. I have been thinking of putting them on the pegboard backdrop for several weeks. Since we are at her house, and have been for a few days, I decided to complete the project here and show her the gift was being cared for. Nothing fancy or elaborate, here is what I came up with.

Spent the whole weekend up north, got no modeling done (and probably will not now until the semester is over) but almost got the future train room finished up. Just a couple of pieces of molding to put up and a little more cleanup. The ceiling is almost done.

Last week when I ran my new (to me) Athearn Blue Box F-units on the club layout the B unit ran like crap so, I took to my workbench for a thorough cleaning. When I opened it up I was disappointed with the quality of the wiring done on the DCC conversion, and in addition, a couple of the tiny, fine DCC wires pulled loose. So it not only got a complete tear down and cleaning, but got several new wires soldered directly to the truck frames and the old blue box riveted steel bus angles cut off. After reassembly, it ran nice and smooth but got noisy whenever the shell was attached. So, after thinking about that a bit, I popped off the shell, added a small piece of upholstery foam, and VOILA quiet as a lamb. I'm quite pleased as this level of rework and DCC wiring was new to me. Now I'm a bit more confident in a couple additional planned DCC conversions.

Then, I weighted a couple of cars that were derailing too often at the club, and yesterday I spent a couple of hours adding all the detail parts to a Roundhouse products Old Time Westinghouse tank car (possibly limited edition).

This morning, I cut, folded, and glued up a card stock container to put on my well cars and flat cars. I'm pleased enough with the results that there will almost certainly be more added in the future.

I finished an MDC Class A Climax that my dad started... likely in the 1980's. Maybe need to build some more logging gear, will have to see what I have in my stash.

I don't have a layout, just a few Free-mo modules, but I have a real solid idea of where and when I'm modeling (Fort Worth TX, 1986-91). So one of the things I like to do is model the rail traffic appropriate to the era and area even if I'm not going to model a specific industry. For example, the GM plant in nearby Arlington TX could make its own module set or even its own layout, but I don't have any plans to do that. However, to model Fort Worth without any of that traffic would leave a huge void. So I've got a number of railcars that serve the assembly plant to fill out trains to and from Arlington.

A much smaller example and one I may get around to modeling one day is Texas Lehigh Cement north of Fort Worth on the UP. This facility receives cement by rail from their kiln in South Texas (also on the UP) and it is stored in a large silo for truck loading. Texas Lehigh Cement is served by a local that spots and pulls cuts of the familiar two-bay covered hoppers. During my era these cars were mostly UP and legacy road cars, though lease cars were commonly mixed in.

So that brings us to this weekend's modeling accomplishment, which is another unfinished model! Following Pullman's lead, I've been cutting up some PS 4427 covered hoppers and converting them from three-bay cars to 3148cf two-bay cars. So far the cuts have been made to one each of Life-Like Proto2000 and ExactRail 4427 models with a couple more to kitbashes to come. These will be painted gray and lettered for Pullman's PLCX lease fleet.

I used up the last of my Atlas covered hopper hatches on the P2K model, so I'll have to 3D print some hatches for the ExactRail model and the next few to come. It's also time to place an order with Plano for some etched running boards for the P2K hoppers.

I used 1" square bend hooks. The one on the bottom pinches the hole slightly to hold it in place.

Good weather, not much done on the layout, just a few streetlights on the road...
