That's a neat storage solution BNSF Fan. (y) It seems that most of us are forced to keep too much of our rolling stock and locomotives stored away in boxes. My late father built this lovely cabinet for my N Scale 35 years ago. It's made of cherry, with glass shelves, sliding glass doors on roller bearings and is lighted.

Gosh, that HO NS unit atop the shelf looks gigantic doesn't it? :)

The solar system cars is getting longer :) Going to be quite the train when all are released.

Also applied two of the last 3 strips between the new silos. Just taking baby steps at this point :)

You need something yellow, representing the sun, to pull the solar system train. UP? :)

I hope to get all my planet cars here soon! I didn't like the locomotive, so I passed on that part of the set but I have only one more to buy, but all the secondary cars are pre-ordered already. My Uranus will be here this weekend I hope, and Feb will be the last official car released.

Agreed about passing on the F unit for the series but will get the caboose though. I am glad that they are doing the Dwarf Planets car that features Pluto prominently. Of course the moon and Halley's Comet are neat. What would have been cool though would have been instead of a Milky Way caboose, if they had done it as a box car and added an E.O.T. on it.

I also wonder if there will be any other surprises in this series as it get closer to the end?

Yea I found a F unit and a caboose kinda odd for a set with modern hi-level cars. Oh well... I would have preferred a SD40-2 or a SD70ACe as the loco and another box car for the Galaxy.

An asteroid car that always derails and knocks Earth off your layout and on to the floor. Oh wait, never mind, I better quit reading all that dooms day articles. :D

Maybe even a grain hopper... You know to keep all the glowing marbles in place as they "orbit" your layout would have been better than a Caboose

It felt like a slow weekend on the train front but I did manage to do a couple of things.

Saturday, I spent about half the day trying to get some rest and that went so so. In the afternoon, the wife and I made a trip to do a contactless drop off at Goodwill. Never stops to amaze me that you can take a pick up truck load and hardly tell anything is gone. After that we rode around a bit checking out some new subdivisions in the area and on the way home, did a curbside contactless pick up at Home Depot.

Sunday was a little better. I started by putting up the last 4 of the "shelves" that I picked up on Saturday. I still have a box of freight cars in jewel cases that I have yet to uncover. That will just about fill the rest of the spaces.

Next, I trimmed down the tips of the flats between the silos

    20210123_130958.jpg

Then sanded the top smooth and made a test roof / cardboard template for the tops of the silos.

    20210124_142047a.jpg

Also deployed these 50 new cars on the layout. In an attempt to make traffic and businesses look busy, I have added a lot of vehicles. I am amazed at how the layout just swallowed them up. Think I am finally good on cars now. Could use some additional pick ups and SUV's though. Wish they came in sets like this too.

    20210123_130451.jpg

I should have gotten more done than just that but I was wiped out at that point and spent some time just sitting at the work bench watching a couple of RR dvd's and sorting though / organizing my note books of stuff. Slowly making a dent in digitizing and reducing physical materials where I can.

Now on to a ramble. I am enjoying collecting the Solar System series that M/T is doing. There are 5 more cars to go. It has me thinking what would be cool to see them do next. What comes to mind (yes, I know most would be stand in cars) and what I think it would be really cool would be a series of fuel tenders. BN ran them regularly and may roads have experimented with them over the years. Between true diesel fuel tenders and LNG type experiments, I would think there might be 10 or 12 different paint scheme possibilities. I am a bit hesitant to start a thread on it's own about this as those things usually tend to take a diverging route on to other possibilities so I'm just adding this to my thread for now and trying to decide if I should actually submit it as a suggestion to M/T.

I will now return you all to your regularly scheduled programming :)

Your Grain Elevator and Silos look magnificent, certainly an inspiration.. looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I have my 1" PVC pipe ready to go. Just need to cut it into square lengths of 5" Nice Job Richard

Thanks sir. I need to light it for a photo so you all can see it better. If you look close at the top two rows, the cars are past the end of the shelf by just over an inch. So, 20 standard small M/T jewel cases end to end are just over the 8 foot length. If I make end caps, I'll have to rearrange those. Light weight, easy to put up and less than $50 spent on the project. The big win was the CFO wife likes it.

Thanks sir. I have the idea in my head of how I want it to look. Hopefully that will translate to something that looks good on the layout. I really wanted it to look massive so I think I at least have that part covered. I don't think the roof will be that bad to do once I get the silos capped. Just have to build a super long shed along the top and then research some more on what other details are on the roof tops of the facilities. I also know that a simple coat of paint will help it a lot.

Hmmmmm, maybe...….. should I weather the panels on this car or replace them with a set of the etched metal ones if I can find them. This test spot on the roof looks good but I want to change the panels, I can't continue until I do that …. decisions , decisions.

It looks fantastic... but I'm not sure I want my wife to see that easily how many railcars and locomotives I have! And I don't have nearly that many (or enough!)
