Will the seller still be able to offer PP as an option? If not, there is no reason for me to ever look at their (eBay's) offerings again.

This may explain why my last couple transactions with them were a bit odd. Still used PP and everything worked fine but it was asking me at the time of pay who I wanted to use, where it usually just pops into PP.
That sounds very fishy. You don't have to link your Pay Pal to a bank account (and hopefully I don't offend anyone) but you should never ever link anything on line to a debit card or straight to a bank account. That is just asking for trouble.
I have done this and yes the seller can still use PayPal to purchase. It actually makes it easier for buyers to purchase as it enables other forms of payment for the buyer. It bypasses PayPal and eliminates the double fee issue. Ebay now stick-handles all forms of payments from the seller for me and once the transaction is processed on their end I get paid. It's been seamless.
it's not fishy at all. PayPal and Ebay are secure so I don't expect any issues with it. In fact, I have had my bank account linked to my PayPal for almost 10 years with zero issues.
It's simple: Ebay bought Paypal in 2002 for $1.5 billion. In 2015 they split Paypal from Ebay (various rumors as to why, but it happened) but maintained a five-year operating agreement (expired 2020). Now Ebay is going to another payment system: Adyen, an Amsterdam-based payments company. Adyen’s customers include tech industry giants Uber, Netflix, and Spotify. Adyen primarily provides back-end payments services, like credit card processing, and won’t have a visible presence at the eBay checkout, unlike the “pay with PayPal” button. So rather than completing payments through an external provider like PayPal, eBay wants to keep everything in-house and on-site with Adyen. Ebay will manage the payments flow and be taking care of the customer service (in other words, providing all of the services 'in house'). Ebay is also claiming that “most sellers” can expect to pay less for payments processing with Adyen compared to PayPal. However, there’s no indication as to how much less. Personal thoughts are that Ebay sees that both buyers and sellers are leaving the site so they are trying to do something to keep that from happening. Unfortunately, it might be a little late to be closing the barn door...
Seems as though the reception for their idea has not been at all good. In fact, after reading many comments, I can see even more people leaving.
The problem that I see is the listing fees have went through the roof since I last listed in 2016. So the seller would have to adjust the shipping cost to accommodate for the loss. Or if an item was damaged or late in transit, eBay would charge the seller. Plus as an buyer the shipping cost is sometimes a little bit outrageous or way overpriced. Odd, all the changes but that's almost normal in the business world. About the time you get used to one protocol, policies and procedure they update them and your back to figuring out how to work the system. I set up Pay-Pal as my funding account for my woo woo woo. Harrumph!! When I sold off a bunch of N Scale items on E-bay my biggest problem was shipping. At the time. I could ship cheaper through USPS then with the other means. At a savings to me or the buyer as compared to E-pay's shipping plan. I tried to charge only what shipping cost but that turned into more of a hassle. Never mind the cost of crediting a buyers account. Then there's those who don't read the disclaimers. I would usually credit them back a small amount. Most often satisfying the buyer. Not sure what I will do in the future. I have HO and N scale stuff to sell. Most of it junk and I will advertise it as such. There are those looking for parts and that works for them. We have a way to sell right here on TB and that's where i will most likely go to in the future. Start here on TB.
When I did sell on E-bay, I would only use USPS Flat rate boxes (unless it was something too big) and there was never a question on the shipping costs. They could go to their post office, or online and see the fees I am charging were what they were paying. Saved me a lot of headaches. I stopped selling after a claim about a broken train... it was Lego, and I sent it completely disassembled. I can tell the story if you all want. I also lost my tail on a Genesis model that did have a few blemishes that were plain and very easy to see in the photos but he stated I never mentioned there was anything wrong. I think he paid too much for a model by trying to upbid someone else. There was a bidding war right at the end of the auction, and that engine ended up back on E-bay about a week after I sold it. and it sold for less than he paid (even with the refund) than he paid. Oh and he didn't show the missing visor, and scuffed paint, that I did show... So I don't know what he ended up getting in the end.
I did the same thing. I stopped selling there when USPS became expensive and unreliable and EBay fees became too much. These days, almost 75% of the listings are BIN or crazy starting prices. I may buy something every once in a blue moon, but its become rare these days.
