I think the issue is that a small website gets very lost in the "long tail" of search results. How does a seller reach even a fraction of the audience that is available through eBay? There is, of course, the careful way of saying "hey, you don't have to buy it from me here" without tripping an eBay alarm, but then what? Word of mouth? Advertising (including here)? Dumb luck?

I've seen my own website drop on Google Search way off the main page (except when searching "UMTRR" of course!). A post on "another network" lamenting the decline of brick and mortar shops included references to four or five shops that I'd never heard of. Were it not for my reading that post I still wouldn't have heard of them even though they DO have a web presence.

Although I am not that auction site in volume, thankfully my site seems to keep a fairly steady traffic flow.

One problem for me is there are ahead of me in searches, about half a dozen who use a similar sounding name. Excepting some tidbits pirated from me, they have absolutely NOTHING to do with the subject. For them it is just a cutesy use. My site is the only one on the web actually directly on the topic... Nothing that can be done to change matters.

Come this summer, I will be a registered user of that place for 24 years. Have seen it go from being an open and free platform for sellers, like booths in an antique mall or an arts & crafts fair, to them essentially micromanaging a user's affairs so the items for sale are essentially their products, and you get a stipend for your being a simple associate helping them. Or they boot (fire) you off the site. Feels like how it must be living under a totalitarian government.

Here's one advertised as Frisco caboose for $28.95, guess the owner can't read.

These CMW kits are quite expensive to begin with. One has to be very careful when building them... not as easy as it seems. The 'modeler' may have a greater admiration of his own work than others would credit him for. Cost of structure, hours spent building and painting... rarely yield monetary return for the effort.

New as of October, 2014. Either he is using a template of some sort and not updating it, or is not quite being straight ahead with the community?

If this is the case with this ebay seller , I could sell mine for $35! But I won't. Lol. Besides have to love the MRSP $ , then the sale $ . See my second photo.

That it is not a 4-6-0, but a 4-6-2? Or did I miss something else?

The third one is a 'prairie class' 4-6-2.

    Isn't a prairie a 2-6-2? A 4-6-2 is a pacific.
