I got something very similar to these on Amazon awhile back. Great deal for as many cars as you get. I even got the road stuff with mine to play with. Niece loves them and the adhesive ( think post it note ) road that you can take up and use again, kind of All I know is I had NO cars and now I have a boatload of them.
I think it may have been you that actually prompted me to look for these. That set of 40 did come with a roll of roadway and some curves. I did not realize it was that easy to put down and take up. Honestly, my layout isn't big and I thought 40 cars would go a long way in populating it and I was wrong. Have another set on the way, this time 50 cars with no roads. They look similar but not exactly the same in the pics on that A****N site so we shall see.
I have a sprinkling of vehicles around. I just say its 10AM and everyone is either at work or not awake yet...
Post a picture please when you have them on your layout. Curious to see how they look on a real layout. Mine little 2x4 layout is a hot mess right now Can't beat the price for what you get. For filler automobiles, anyway!
Here is a quick one blown up from another picture and red arrows to some of the cars from the set. Will try and get a better pic later. They blend in very well. Now if someone would just do a set of pick ups and suv's that would be killer!
More pics of the cars. Not fantastic but you get the feel for how far the 40 cars go and these are mixed with a wide assortment of cars from Atlas, Kato, Busch, Oxford, etc. There are more roads on the layout plus some places where I would like to have more parked cars. Maybe a bit of over kill but fun none the less.
Weekend grain elevator work was slow. I did get a little done though. Saturday morning I painted the 3 roof panels and got the last two walls in place for the main building. Later, I came back and applied the roof panels. Then I attached the double deep and single deep silos. Still going to add one more single silo at the end. Just never got around to dragging out the saw to cut one more.
Also on Saturday, I experimented a little with a display shelf idea ( there is a whole different thread for that but here is a look. That may be a more of project this coming weekend but we'll see. On Sunday, I started assembling the load/unload sheds Started on the stands for the roof top dust collectors And added a couple of utility/ machinery cabinets to the roof on the other side. and lastly, one more look at the silos. Still have one more silo and two flat strips to add and then it will be time to make tops for these. That's about it for now. Not really much for a 3 day weekend but progress none the less.
Hope you have some grains cars to fill-that is gonna' be huge! There is the TEMCO silo in Tacoma, Wa south of me where BNSF dumps it's grain trains for oversea's ports, it always has 100+ cars sitting alongside of it! Can't wait to see yours finished, gonna' be massive!
The added cars makes it look like rush hour in the city, the grain mill is coming along nicely. Your layout is looking awesome and looking forward to your next update. Joe
Almost all my roads are made using Leisure Times Products roadways. There are good, fairly quick to put down and look nice. However, I do intend to go back and upgrade most of the roads at some point so they don't all look freshly paved.
Those look like they are printed on roofing felt ! I made my own out of roofing felt. They looked great...for a while. Over time they shrunk...leaving gaps at the curb sides and gaps between end pieces. Of course my layout is inside an RV parked on the side of the house. -0 degrees in the winter...100+ in the summer. Not saying the Leisure Times Products roadways arent a good product even though I havent tried them. A layout in a temperature controlled enviornment proabably wouldnt have the problem I encountered. I had to rip the felt roadways up and ended up painting the plywood undeneath with chalkboard paint. So far so good..
Didn't get any work done on the layout over the weekend. Wife kept me booked up. Last night, I did manage to get down to the train room for a few minutes. Did a test fit of the grain elevator progress. So far, it is going as expected. Still need to add at least one more silo on the single deep end. At some point I rambled on about projects for 2021. Included was getting my inventory up to date, making sure everything that I can change has M/T trucks and couplers, and adding metal wheels as I can. I gathered up the first box of cars to start with and what metal wheels I have accumulate which is not many and now have them on my desk. That counts as a start, right? 12 days into 2021 now and at least I have something going. I keep telling myself it's going to get better. Guess we shall see.

Not exactly the weekend I was hoping for but not a total loss. Well a bit of one as the plumber hit my someday I want DCC with Sound locos fund pretty hard. It's amazing how fast a pinhole leak in a copper water line can make a mess. I'll quit whining about that because I don't have enough cheese to share. One non train project I have been working on for the last year (well, 2 weeks shy of a year) came to a close Saturday morning. The wife is not a fan of polished brass or gold just about anything in the house. So, we have been on a mission as time and funds allow to replace all the door hinges, locks and other hardware with satin nickel. It's been a task and Friday night and Saturday morning, I finished all the doors left but one that needed a lock re keyed. A trip to HD got that lock rekeyed and I installed it upon returning home Mission accomplished!!! While at HD Saturday morning, I picked up another section of PVC pipe and cut two more silos for the grain elevator after finishing up the door lock install. I also cut a section that will fill between one silo and the backdrop. Looks rough from this side but will look right once in place. Once all the caulk dries, I can add the styrene strip and it will be time to actually begin on the roof. On the main building, I added a couple of dust collectors and some roof vents. It now needs some touch up of paint to the walls and seams and it will be ready for decals and some additional details. I was originally thinking I would go with ADM for the name but with the new set of larger decals (and a super big thank you to the friend who sent them) I am not sure if I want to stick with ADM or go with Cargill or Con Agra Decisions, decisions, decisions!?!?
Another project from the weekend was working with the metal wall studs. Hey … hey …. I know you all told me not to but I couldn't help it. Stop throwing things at me... Anyway, I put up 6 eight foot sections on the wall in my train room closet and realize I can add and will for sure use 4 more. I have room to add 8 but the top four would be above my reach and with the bad knee, I can't be climbing up and down on a step stool. Anyway, I regret to inform you all that there was no expected bloodshed during this install. Now, don't get me wrong, there was bloodshed this weekend, just not from this project. The pictures don't really do it justice as it looks way better in person. That's 6 eight foot sections or 48 linear feet of shelf. Surprisingly, I thought that would hold a lot more than it does. Maybe I will get by HD one evening this week and pick up the 4 more sections I know for sure I can add. I will also see if I can find a nice piece of trim that is about the depth of these and make some end caps. The true scary part of this is that my wife actually said she liked this. That just doesn't happen when it comes to my train stuff.
