Work extremely slowly continues on the grain elevator.

Added the doors and windows here. It doesn't show in the pictures but I find that the 4 walls seem to have an ever so slight bow to them. That should make for a challenge to assemble them.

On the silo front, I caulked a couple more sections together. Since this is going along and past one end of the scenic divide, Part of the silos will actually be two deep while the rest will be single deep but hopefully give the impression of double deep. For the double deep section, I am still debating if it will be two or 3 pairs. Here are the two pairs affixed together now.

For the singles, I have the two set or four together. Depending on what I do with the doubles, this will become a set of eight or maybe a set of ten. Either way, it will be a nice huge elevator when all together.

My plan is to use some strip styrene between each silo to create a small flat connection between each one. my problem is finding some. I was out Saturday and made a couple of stops to try and get some but all I found were a lot of empty Evergreen and Plastruct display racks. I know I could cut my own but that would be whacky. I'm one of those people that couldn't cut a straight line to save my life so I really want pre cut. I had planned to make it to a not so LHS that I am pretty sure has what I need but the wife unit had other plans for my Saturday so never made it. Maybe after Christmas. Speaking of Christmas, that is a 4 day weekend so hopefully a Christmas eve update for the JPT sub but if not, I wish you all a very MERRRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!

BTW - I did green and no red on purpose. I'm a Grinch fan :D:p:ROFLMAO:

That is a good idea and good thing to have around. My wife actually has a bigger version of that. It will be a last resort if I don't find the ones I am looking for because even with those things, I still struggle with it being straight. Don't ask me how or why.

Ordered one of those sets of 40 cars from Amazon and finally got around to taking them out yesterday. I'm thinking I could maybe use a second set :D

Well, a four day weekend has come and gone and I feel like I maybe had a day off. Did get down to the train room a couple of times to make some slow progress.

I have fought and fought with these 4 walls. I have had this kit sitting on a shelf un opened for many years. Now that I am finally using some of it, I am a bit disappointed to find that all four of these long main walls have an ever so slight bow to them. That has made for a challenge during assembly but I think I finally have it.

The first two going together. These two were the worst to get right of them all. Even with them pressed into a corner, they still did not square up or somehow shifted as the glue dried.

    20201224_102946a.jpg

From there, I was able to finally get the other 3 corners to line up okay.

    20201224_181019.jpg

And finally returned to the one troublesome wall. It took a couple of tries but this attempt finally got it lined back up and glued in place okay.

Next up is the roof. I still need to paint the roof panels but not sure what color to use. The parts are molded in a silver type color so maybe some shade of grey?

On to more fun with silos.

I decided to go with 3 double deep sections of silos at the end of the scenic divide so attached those. Also attached the two sets of 4 single deeps together to make a row of 8 now.

    20201224_104901.jpg

After some searching, I finally found some strip styrene that would work for between the silos. Yeah!

    20201226_183304.jpg

Will probably look just right once they get a coat of paint but that will probably be a while with the cold weather. My last in the storage room paint job was very small and it hit my limit for fumes so this will be way to big to paint in there.

I think for the singles, I am going to add one or two more plus I sill have to cut one to fit between the last single and the backdrop so it still has the look and allusion of being double deep. It has a long area to fill. For the tops, the plan is to cut the styrene roof to meet flush to the backdrop.

Still plenty to do on this side of the layout but it's slowly coming together :) Despite the year that 2020 has been, the JPT Sub has weathered it fairly well. Hopefully I will get another chance before Friday to run trains a few last laps for this year. While I know nothing will really change when the calendar flips to January, I sure hope that the new year will take us all in a better direction. Thanks for checking in and see you all again soon!

An idea for a new initiative for 2021 will be to help take some of the burden off of Lucky Penny Yard on THE.R.R by rerouting some traffic across the JPT Sub. I'm thinking I may be in over my head here George @mtntrainman :D:p:ROFLMAO::LOL:

Did you look at the dates before putting them in the jar? If not there's got to be some hard to find coins in there.

Yep, no wheat backs in that five gallons of pennies. Possible there might be some late 60's or early 70's S mint marks that got by me but not many. :)

I got a jar of pennies once upon a time ago. While going through the jar I found about 40 steel pennies in really good condition and about 5 slightly rusty. I only really collect silver coins so these were not much value to me... but I took them to a coin shop nearby my house and sold them all for about $50. I cant say that was a bad sale... $.45 in pennies for $50 is a good return in my book.
