Last night (Saturday), I was watching an episode of the old tv show Emergency and they had a neat segment on a boxcar fire. I snapped a few shots of the TV and thought O would share them here.

Those photos turned out amazingly well. Never a dull moment at Station 51! :p

When I was a kid, I always enjoyed scenes from Adam 12 as they careened through streets laced with industrial trackage.

Of course, I have to wonder what caught fire in the boxcar. I hope it wasn't a shipment for a hobby shop.

    :D

A few years back I was watching a documentary on that show and learned that this show is credited with popularizing the concept of having EMTs supplement fire department services. Something we take for granted that of course if the fire dept shows up you'll have trained medical help available. Wasn't always the case apparently until this show made that popular. Thought that was interesting. Loved this show when I was a kid.

Interesting the way they kept everything kind of generic, like the "Chicago and Pacific" railroad. Sounds like it could be someone's model RR.

Hmmm. I am wondering if that series can be had in a DVD set? I would buy it!!!

They actually used railroad's in several shows. Remembering one in which someone was suffocating from fumes inside a tank car they had been cleaning. SP engines were seen in several episodes.

That was a great show. The Los Angeles County Fire Museum in Bellflower, CA has the actual engine and squad 51 vehicles in their collection.

This link to their page has other interesting background information about the show.

Fun Fact: Emergency's producer Mark VII Limited was owned by Jack Webb of Dragnet fame.

Jack Webb had a wonderful imagination and wit. One of Sgt. Friday's most descriptive lines was: "He was hit by a double-barreled shotgun. First barrel cut him in half. Second barrel made a crowd out of him." Please visualize this delivered with Webb's monotone baritone drone. Marvelous.

I always assumed an existing wreck was used in The Train Robbers. At least it looks like it's been there for years. Anyone know the history?

No doubt carrying raw material for fabricating scale lumber for model railroaders. :D

    More TV railfanning :D

This is from an episode of CHiPs that was on the other day. Really got a good laugh when the engineer told Ponch that the engine had 3600HP.

The movie "Them" about giant ants was on yesterday. I have seen it several times and this scene usually get's cut out to make room for more commercials but this time I got it.
