+1000 on the NCL. That said, I welcome any new high quality, prototypical Kato named train release. My wallet is already experiencing the emptiness.....

Finally, a passenger train to buy that I do not have! FYI, I am crazy nuts about passenger trains!

Same here... that is why I will buy the TCL even if it doesn't fit my geographic area.

The above is from the OP in this thread. It appears to align very well with Kato's announcement. Everything matches up except it will be 13 cars instead of 15, and there will be one less 4-4-2 sleeper and one less 10-6 sleeper.

If it goes well Kato may offer another two-car add on set at a later date. You never know...

It could happen. I think they'll stick with the current offering. Also, I'm not sure if that consist I found included any run through sleepers that might have been for Western roads. The Broadway Limited releases included run through ATSF 4-4-2 sleepers, so something similar might apply here. We likely need a NYC expert to advise us on what run through cars might have been applicable for the TCL era in question.

Regardless, I'm really excited about this release. Not that it's necessarily any better than other Kato name train releases (I get really excited about all of them LOL )

According to a 1951 timetable, the through sleepers to/from LA, via the Santa Fe, were one each of the 10-6 and 4-4-2 configurations.
It seems, then, that Kato may be omitting the two through sleepers.

Were Kato so inclined, they could offer an NYC two-car add-on set consisting of a "River" series 10-6 car and a "Bridge" series 4-4-2 car.
Another possibility would be a Santa Fe two-car add-on set consisting of a "Pine" series 10-6 car and a "Regal" series 4-4-2 car.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure a lot of us already have at least one Super Chief set, so if we want to add some ATSF through sleepers we can do so without Kato's help. (y)

Well luckily, I have all the ATSF cars so I can outfit TCL correctly!

    They do look nice.

I am glad that Kato got the windows and lightning stripe correct on the observation. Those are important spotting features of the NYCS smoothside observation; large windows and the zig-zag stripe. For comparison, here are the older Kato and the C-C.

The E-7 does look pretty good. I will not buy these, as you would not have seen them on the P&LE during my era, but I am glad for you NYCS boys and passenger train collectors. As usual, I would expect pretty good quality, as it is Kato.

Next, I am hoping for B&Os and a Capitol Limited.

Interesting to see Brokemoto's Kato Observation Car, mine has the zig-zag stripe. As I recall, Kato did two runs of the NYC. IMG_1572.JPG Sorry, couldn't figure out how to straighten image, original was correct and even rotating it didn't change how it appeared in the post

An on-line etailer located in the 'Old Line State' just posted the Kato TCL passenger set and 4 car add-on set. These are the plain version (no lighting). The DC powered E7 set is also listed. No idea when these will actually ship out... an order I placed last week is still not mailed out. Looks like they are having Covid-19 delay issues.

Yep. My order is in. I think that inventory was over 100 on each of the car sets and 70 for the locos (now showing 64). It looks like they're expecting these to be a hot item.

That trainset looks fantastic. It would be neat to have but just can't justify it for my RR. However I see they are selling just the observation car separate. Maybe I can pass that off as a private car :D

Over the past 18 years that Kato has been releasing 'prototypical' named trains, I have been supporting their efforts... even if the consist did not make sense for my RR. I certainly would not have done so if I could not afford it... but times are now changing for me and I have to be more selective. I still would like to have a completely prototypical North Coast Limited... but I'm not even sure I will see that day.

I ordered my full set today.

BTW, do any of the NYC superfans know where in the consist the Santa Fe run-thru cars would have been positioned? Thanks in advance.

I have been wondering about the motive power for the TCL. Kato is only selling a pair of E7A's... but that seems a bit insufficient for a 13+ car consist. I don't think NYC rostered E7B's... so it would have probably used another E7A for extra power. Any insight on that from the NYC hardcore railroad modelers?

I guess we won't know until we actually see one, but don't you think Kato will still use the E8-PA-P42 chassis? They're good pullers. My Auto Train representation has 16 or 17 Superliners and 20 autoracks, and I pull it on NTRAK layouts with 2 P42's. Of course, there aren't supposed to be any grades.

I guess 4000 hp for the 2 E7A's would be okay on flatlands then. I was thinking of getting a PA/PB/PA set for 6000 hp.
