Not related to printing... well maybe a little. I had a company really screw me out of some money. I knew they had an older style thermal fax machine. I got them back by faxing them 4 sheets of black construction paper... Oh I may have taped them together in a loop and let it run for a few hours in the middle of the night... and I may have done this more than once... cant get away with that now as caller ID and fax machines are programmed to ignore that kind of thing. Worked well in the early 90's tho.

LOL, if it had been on an inkjet, I'd probably have run out of ink before it finished.

That's the good thing about laser jets is the ink goes a lot farther so the cost to do that was actually really small.

I'm guessing this is the main part you are interested in?
    MM scrap.JPG

It's made by Monroe Models and is still available. To enhance it, I gathered a bunch of small scrap items I had on hand. This included some short sections of rail, some cast metal cable reels, and a bunch of little plastic nubs that were on a kit I was building. I then gave them a liberal dose of rust weathering powder I had and just poured them across and beside the casting (they are the darker colored items). The barrel's are a mix of different detail parts out there. I've had those two resin cast dumpsters so long, I don't remember where they came from. The little shack is a built up item from Woodland Scenics. The fence is from JL Innovative Design and is cool because it has some neat product signs on it. This is one of those scenes that is not quite finished but still looks good for now.

Hopefully that covers what you were looking for?

An update from the long but somehow short weekend.

Lets start with a parking lot update. The last print is in place and the handicap parking sign is in. Still debating if I want to cut some curbs to put in each space or not. Sorry, the photos are a little dark.

Next up, I will need to make the drive out and across the tracks. Started on building the crossing. I did get it painted so it will be ready to install soon.

I did get the propane tanker finished except for hazmat placards. Need to get a sheet of decals of them. Any good recommendations?

After that, it was on to my new GHQ scraper. Made good progress on it.

Didn't get much done with the grain elevator. Built a base to raise the head house. Looks tall but really just brings it up just above track level. I'm thinking once I pour some ballast in the gap to bring it level, it will look better. Anyhow, had to raise it for clearance reasons. If it doesn't work out, this kit may go back in storage and I will build the Walthers modern ADM style grain elevator for this spot. That would also mean I would either have to find the add on grain silos for it of scratch build some myself to get the size I would like to have.

Lastly, there was a question a few post back about the paint I used on my dry bulk carrier trailers. I think I may have been off a tad on the name so here you go. Even though the caps look to be different shades, I found that these two have almost exactly the same finish look. I do like the Krylon better for small jobs.

Another little project completed over the weekend was to add an interior light for the chemical plant office and for the concrete plant office. I think I have three more buildings to add interior light to and light will be done for now.

Hopefully you all had a great weekend and will have a great rest of the week ahead. As always, thanks for all the kind words, comments and suggestions.

Earth looks good on the tracks. I just got mine too but I dont have a layout any more to display mine on. I will start building another one here soon. Right now though I am working on my Trail 90. I finally got it back from the body shop (It was a high school shop that got locked up with the school closures), and now I'm taking care of all the little parts that didn't go to the shop for paint. Those I am handling.

I like the scrapyard, and the enhancements you made to the basic model.

I lightened the shadows 50% in the first pic in FastStone Image Viewer (a freebie that is well worth downloading):

Well bummer on the boxes. I was ready to hand them a blank check. The rest of it looks good - and your parking lot was clearly resurfaced recently!

Sorry Phillip. I was hoping to get more as well. As for the parking lot, I love the clean look of a fresh asphalt surface even it is the exception rather than the norm. :D

Well, it was a bust weekend for working on the layout. I posted in the weekend thread about doing the estate sale thing Thursday & Friday set up and Saturday sale. By Sunday, I was completely wiped out. When I finally rolled out of bed and had a few cups of coffee, I did head down to the layout. My first task on the list was to get a coat of paint on the GHQ scraper I was working on.
    scraper_a.JPG

It's coming along. Still have to paint the bottom, do the black for the tires and front grill plus add windows. Not sure on lettering yet. After that coat of paint was applied, I sat down at the workbench, turned on a train DVD and proceeded to sit and doze on and off for about an hour before just calling it a day and returning to my recliner. Still tired and sore knees today but wide awake at least.

OD Green--are you making a military version of the scraper?

Exactly. Something like this one. It will be a flat car load.

    scraper_b.JPG

Most of the pics I have found of them in OD green have almost no markins so that makes it easy too. :D

    Good point sir.

To go with this load, probably going to do a couple of bull dozers, a road grader, and maybe a water truck as well. Have a whole cut of military loads. :coffee:
