The post office needs a major overhaul and face lift. I applaud what's currently happening. They've been operating an expensive delivery system running and/or using antiquated operations. Sorting has been a real problem all along and needs a timely approach to central hubs where mail can be sorted overnight and routed to the receiving post office. Seeing a package go through Boulder City, on the way from Las Vegas, Nevada and then to Winnemuucca, NV before it gets to Boise, ID., kind of has me scratching my head. Then out to Nampa, ID, resting overnight before it's out for delivery. It works but some of those stops could be eliminated with a central hub and dispatching directly to the receiving post office. Ending on a positive note it worked for me and got here about as fast as anything in the past has. The one thing that bothers me is why would anyone order/buy and or pay for anything on a promise? If that's the case I've got a bridge to sell you. My two cents and I take change. Ducking and running for cover.
Bought an Overland Models GP60, EMD #5, from anothe member recently. Was supposed to be delivered today. Instead, this si what they left: We attempted to deliver your item at 5:08 pm on August 29, 2020 in LONGMONT, CO 80501 and a notice was left because an authorized recipient was not available. Which is totally false!! They were just too lazy to ring the doorbell. There were 3 of us right there, when package was supposed to be delivered! Will have a few things to say!
I can't think of a single time where the postal system let me down. The vast majority of the time I've received packages earlier than expected. Now, all of a sudden it's a mess and supposedly has been for a long time?
The post office has problems delivering things on time so shippers find other ways to ship. Less things being shipped via PO, so they have to raise prices for postage. More shippers find other ways to ship. Less things being shipped via PO, so they have to raise prices for postage...and so on. I notice that Amazon, probably the largest shipper out there, quit using USPO a long time ago.
Not sorry to see Amazon leave the PO...who do you think was paying Overtime on Sunday deliveries? Not Amazon!
I am still getting things from Amazon via USPS. I do notice that the tracking services of the USPS, UPS, Fedex. and DHL have been down since last Friday early evening. And the Sure Post has also been down. The only thing that has been working is Amazons tracking.
I am waiting for some Mega-Smoke (coal-scented) and a couple of squirt bottles for my two Arnold Rapido 2-8-2's with smoke. Of course, I just ordered it yesterday. Doug
Items shipped USPS PM Friday afternoon from VA, a friendly postal carrier just handed the box to me in western CO, a few minutes ago. Pretty good service.
USPS may be inefficient and poorly run but the everyday postal workers do a heck of a job. I have also rarely ever been let down. Doug
I finally got one, even if it isn't N scale. I ordered two DVDs from the Southern Pacific Historical Soc (Trainline, their magazine now on DVD, Vol 1 and 2). Website said that both were in stock so I ordered them. Got a pre-shipping notice the next day and then NOTHING for 10 days. I finally sent them an inquiry as to what was going on and was told that one of the DVDs was out of stock and they are waiting for it before shipping. Not even an ETA, just one is out of stock. If I didn't need them both so bad...
I misnamed the smoke fluid I ordered, above. it's "Mega-Steam" smoke fluid, not "Mega-Smoke". It arrived today. Doug
Had a package arrive Saturday, but instead of ringing doorbell, the delivery person decided to leave a notice, stating the following: No Authorized Recipient Available. Package came Monday, late. Stated when I scheduled delivery, that it was supposed to be delivered by 11AM. Also filed complaint with Post Office about how lazy driver was, by failing to use doorbell.
Well it looks like I have a second one to ad and it IS N scale. Ordered some trains from BLW in their "going out of business...eventually" sale. Now BLW did nothing wrong and have always been great (gonna miss him, in fact I already do but everyone has to retire eventually), but he did ship it priority via USPS. The order was shipped on 8/26 (eight days ago) priority. The USPS website only tells me it was in Englishtown NJ and Newark NJ on the 26th, Memphis TN on 8/30 (so much for 2 day priority), and since them it is "in transit to the next facility" and the note that "Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way." Thanks USPS, so glad it is costing more to ship slower.
