Managed to hobble down to he layout after work yesterday. Finished painting the wheels on this group of trucks. Probably have a dozen or so tractors to g then it's time to evaluate trailers and see if there are any wheels I think need to painted there.

Was looking at the chemical plant office as well. Trying to get a feel for how it will look. Thinking that add on shed might be a better fit that adding a roll up door and finishing out the wall.

Latest package arrived looking a little rough. I noticed on the tracking showed it took a scenic route through a couple of extra facilities. Guess that's what happens. Fortunately all was intact.

Looks like the Samsonite gorilla got a hold of the box. Remember that commercial?

Was one of my favorites as a kid. Every time my dad would get back from a trip, I would ask him if his suitcase survived the gorilla. LOL

They look as good as any Mini Metals trucks I guess. I don't know if all of them are like this but the resin garbage compacting and haulage section was not attached to the frame on either truck, the rear axle and wheels are wider than the truck which is odd, plus grey wheels. I'm going to be brutally honest here. If I had bought them to use as is, I would have been very disappointed in them. Since I have a modernization project for them, I'm okay with them I guess.

Here they are out of the package.

The wheel out hang doesn't show as much in the pics as it does in person. What else in this pic doesn't really show on the sides but does on the top has to do with the lettering. It looks like a model that was decaled and no sealer finish added. Nothing a light coat of dull coat or clear coat won't fix.

Here is my plan for them. I have to redo my paint work on that front axle and a couple of other easy tweaks but you get the idea, right?

It was my favorite commercial. Every time I see a beat up box I think of the gorilla and laugh.

Nice trash trucks. I'm guessing there's no such item as modern trash trucks on the market?

Not complete and assembled that I know of. There is a GHQ one that is probably close to the one I am going to Frankenstein together. Royale Models makes a nice looking 3d printed one that is the modern style that has the trash can lift on the side. I may give a shot sometime.

The happy couple, Venus and Vulcan. :) Enjoy for now as Mars will probably be here in September and the romance will be over.

Not a ton to update this morning.

Painted more wheels on trucks. Almost done. Trailers are next.
    20200801_110443.jpg

This was the big hurdle of the weekend here.

    20200731_185519.jpg

And guess what, I actually got up the courage to put a coat of paint on it.

    20200801_113658.jpg

Wait … what … did I just hear a collective gasp!?!? Hold your horses. I still have a little touch up to do before it's actually ready to be attached to the layout.

I know, I know, I really need to finish this before the end of the decade.

    Okay, okay, keep laughing.

Looking great Richard, I'm going to paint background with Gesso to seal the Masonite and let them dry for 24 hours this afternoon.

My fascia is going to be the same color as yours.

So, speaking of me really dragging of projects, here is one for you. Starting point was 1997 with Atlas flats that had the 2 shorty trailers. Two part project. 1st part was making stand in pup trailers out of the trailers from the flats. 2nd part was to make some of those 50ft flats NS had made from old 50ft box cars.

Here we are in 2020 and the trailers are not done and the flats are not done. Both are close enough for use but still stuff to go. This is again a case of shinny object syndrome.

Here are some of the flats.

    I have the same problem:

The 'honey-do list' just keeps growing ! The more I do and scratch off the list...more and more gets added !:sneaky:

It's like scrolling these forums....the list goes on and on and on and on and.....o_O

Amazing what a simple fascia will do for layout finish appearance.

I noticed a big deference on modules 05 and 06 when installed fascia.

Good day mates! More updates on the JPT Sub.

Let's start with the half done job. Fascia! Two of the 4 sides are on now and it does make a difference for sure! Of course it's the side that needs the most work that got it first. Go figure. There are a few touch up spots that need to be done. Will do that after I get the other two sides attached so that I only have to do it once. I want to add trim to the top and bottom edges but haven't found something I like just yet.
One thing I discovered is that on the short ends, I am having to add some attach points for the fascia. that in itself is being a pain. Ran the battery dead on my cordless drill just trying to attach the four on one end. It is a case of the right tools but the wrong hardware for attaching it. All I had lying around was some sheetrock screws. I drilled pilot holes through some 2x4 blocks that I cut to use but it was still like drilling through concrete. Will need to make a trip to the hardware store before I do the other end. Not fighting that battle again.

    20200809_145831.jpg

So, when the drill died, it was on to other things.

I straightened up al the derailed cars and shifted items after the 8.1 magnitude attack of the drill and moved on to some other task.

First off, I put in the last two sections of rock wall to semi finish up this crossing.

    20200809_153651.jpg

Then I added new loading dock door to this building.

    20200809_154158.jpg

This is one of those buildings that makes me want a 3D printer. So many details I could print and add. Stairs for example. All the doors on this building are raised and no stairs to exit down. Power meters and electrical boxes would also make it look better along with the appropriate style dumpsters and such. My son is all into computer video games and such. Maybe I could get him involved by letting learn the 3D design and print stuff. You know, now that I type that, I realize it might be a good way to justify the printer to the CFO :D
