For what time I spent at the work bench, I did work on some items.

Painted the rest of the truck tire rims that I started last week. Just a little touch up and they will be done. Then I can pull out a few more to do. Also here we see some detail parts that I painted aluminum. There are also some underframes for some autos laying there as well.
    20200719_143227.jpg

And over on this side of the workbench, we see more in progress items.

There are two truck trailers in progress. A 20ft container chassis that just needs decals and a 48ft aluminum flatbed that has a bit more to go. Need to paint the mud flaps, get the wheels finished and apply some decals to finish it up. Next up you can see I am working on the walls and windows for what will become the chemical plant office.
    20200719_143230.jpg

I mentioned the car frames above. Well, I need some parking lot filler. Since these cars will go places that won't be seen close up, I decided that I could use the cars from a Bachmann tri level auto rack that I have. The cars were red yellow and blue and some are station wagons that almost look more like a hearse. Not ideal. I put the station wagons in the parts box for now. Easy rattle can colors I had on hand were silver, dark grey and black figured that would be good colors to make them blend in and be less noticeable. Once the paint is dry and I get back to them, I will use some of the Microscale tor Testors stuff to make windows in them. Once that is done, I will put them back together and place them on the layout without really doing any more to them.
    20200719_150713.jpg

It feels like I really didn't get much done at all but in the end, all these little things should add up. At least I hope so.

Next time I get to spend a little time in the train room, I hope to get the scenic divide in place. Now that it's about done, who knows, maybe we will see some progress on the fascia.

Thanks for taking the time to check in. Hope you all have a fantastic day!

Cool photo! You should have someone on a ladder taking a picture of the train... :)

Cool photo Richard, makes me want to have a picnic on the grassy field and watch the trains go by. Haha

A couple more not so random pics. A few pages back, I commented on making a track down the back side of town. Actually turned out about how I wanted. Did discover I need one more tree at the end close to the church. Here's how it looks.

In this pic, we see the BNSF heritage ATSF switcher working the propane dealer while an autorack train is rolling through the background.

    arht2.JPG

Then we catch the tail end of that same autorack train from a distance as it exits stage left. :D

    arht1.JPG

Like I said above, one more tree should complete the allusion.

I was thinking the same thing and then doing some serious railfanning afterward. (y)

Another weekend of fun on the JPT Sub. There was no focus so it seemed like I was all over the place this weekend.

I've talked about a scenic divide many times throughout the thread and when it did make appearances, it was just a sheet of white bead Styrofoam. I finally got around to applying some backdrop scenes to it last week and put it on the layout Saturday. Previous post gave a preview. I'll say that wile individual sections of it look great, I am not happy with it. The scenes don't fill the whole side on each side and that is something I will have to address someday. For now though, it works. Here's a long view.

Then there were a lot of little projects going on as well.

Posted this in another tread but here's a look at the flatbed kit I picked up from Jeff at http://milwaukeeroadtrainshop.com/
It's not 100% doneStill need to do the wood nail down strips when I get the correct supplies for them. It also shows off the glaring lack of detail on the Kato tractor. Can you say "another project!"
    fb1.JPG

Here's a zoomed out shot. I think this really fit this scene well. Once I get some additional detail on the tractor and the buildings here, I might have something good.

    20200725_123601.jpg

Another trailer is in the works as well along with a couple of building roof top details.

The workbench stayed busy. My knee was bothering me so tried to not be up and down from my chair that much.

First up was some work on the roof of the new chemical plant office and adding some windows to some cheap filler cars.
    20200724_180654.jpg

And a closer look at the car glass after a few hours drying. Should clear up just a little mor so will looks okay from a distance.
    cars2.JPG

Here we see the progress on the Chemical Plant office. Out of scale but hopefully it works.

A few weeks back, I pulled out my M/T fuselage set and cut the 3D printed parts from the spurs. That was part one of my apprehension about that set. The second was the decaling. Well, since I was sitting, I decided it was time to tackle this kit. Sitting next to it was another M/T set that needed decals applied It is the Titan rocket booster set. So off to decal land we go.

    Starting with the 737
    20200725_115644.jpg

    20200725_122108.jpg

Then it was on to the rocket boosters while this set up. They were easy enough. One odd thing was there were "Do Not Hump" decals and orange hazmat placards that the instructions showed went on all four corners of the flats. Easy enough to apply but these are pre weathered cars. To preserve the look, I applied those decals and used a toothpick to apply a very light coat of dull coat over just those decals that I added. Think that worked okay. Everything got a shot of clear coat and was set aside to dry.

The last thing I left on the workbench was more trucks that needed the wheels painted and more work on the plant office.

It's amazing what a difference that just painting the wheels makes on these Atlas and ConCor trucks. The office is coming along as well. One section of rear wall left and then roof top details and she will be ready to set on the layout for a test fit and adjustments.

    20200726_134447.jpg

So, for the end of the weekend, I took all those newly decaled and sealed sets and set them up on the layout.

Here we see the future 737.
    20200726_134516.jpg

and here is the Titan rocket booster set
    20200726_134522.jpg

Since I was feeling the aircraft theme, I broke out a couple of other aircraft parts care as well.
    20200726_134508.jpg

The 747 car hood is riding on a Great Northern flat. I might have to see if I can find some pics and update the flat to the later 747 years. As for the Lockheed car, the flat is probably good as an SP car but thinking the hood might blend in better if it was just a mineral brown or boxcar red color. I don't know here. Maybe I'm inventing projects I don't need to do?

Oh, and one more thing I all but forgot I did is adding some rock work to each side of this crossing. Still have the small section between the two siding tracks.
    20200725_190648.jpg

That's it for today. Hope everyone is liking and enjoying what you see. Not sure what I will dig into next. :)

I know you probably have this on your To Do list and probably have 100 things ahead of it. :) Have you consider using some thin material (Masonite? or even colored paper) and cover up the edges of the two layers of pink foam? You have a great layout and great pictures but to see the pink edges reduces it. Just some constructive suggestions so don't take it the wrong way. It's your layout after all. :)(y)

We are really on the same page MK. Here is a laugh for you. Months back and maybe even more months back...….. no wait, I think I should start like this...… Episode IV - A long, long, time ago in a Lowes not so far away, our hero selected a nice sheet of 1/8th inch birch plywood from the stack. A rebel employee made some cuts and a cashier didn't charge me for them. Then it was off to home base where the edges were sanded and set aside. In episode V, we find ourselves back aboard the Lowes ship once again battling the paint department for a gallon of extra cheap (because it was on sale) paint and supplies. After nearly being captured in the process by the over bearing CFO, I managed to get everything staged for the attack on the planned fascia. Jump ahead to episode VI and we find the fascia has had some sections trimmed out and staged for painting. In the many eons since that day we have progressed through the back story of episode I, II, and III of the JPT Sub only to find ourselves back at the beginning of episode VII where our hero looks at the fascia and looks at the paint and says this will be the day only to be struck down by shiny object syndrome and off we fly in a different direction. Hopefully as we progress toward episode VIII, our hero will find it within himself to crack the lid on that menacing can of paint and bring color and finish to the flat planet.

So, to sum up our rail odyssey, it's in that list of a 100 other things and it will happen. Hopefully soon. Stay tuned. :D:p:ROFLMAO::cool:

(In case you can't tell, it's been a slow day and I'm a bit stir crazy this afternoon)

"Shiny object syndrome".... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Can confirm...(y)(y)
All kidding aside, the trucks look great, but the 737 car looks awesome! The Lockheed car might be a bit of a stretch, as I don't expect a Boeing train to have a Lockheed car in it, but I see so few of these I don't really know.

Lockheed builds the tail assemblies for Boeing 747, so the car is prototypical.

The green color on your 737 aircraft is a spray shellac to protect the aluminum skin. It's washed off right before painting. The skin is pure aluminum on the surface, about 0.003 inches thick, rest is aluminum alloy.
