Just wanted to say hello to everyone... I'm new to model railroading, have only been doing it since Nov 2019. Got into it becuase my 9 year old grandson is obssessed by trains and I thought this would be something that he and I could do together. Well... that's what I tell people anyway... The truth is that I've always loved model railroads and wanted a layout of my own. The fact that my grandson loves it too is just a bonus!
Welcome to Trainboard George! What Scale, road, location and era are you and your grandson going to be modeling?
Thank you! It’s good to be here! We’re modeling in N Scale, and that’s about the extent of what we’ve defined for ourselves so far. We purchased a Kato EMD SD70ACE locomotive, so that puts us in a more contemporary era. Which, I’m discovering, is somewhat less supported in terms of structure model kits, automobiles, and the like, as the lion’s share of that stuff seems to be dated more to the 30’s-40’s. As for location, we’re creating our own with locations and features named after my grandkids. My grandson like the idea of those family touchstones on the layout.
Welcome aboard, George! We have an active N scale forum here, and plenty of talented modelers willing to help if you have questions.
Welcome to TB, PapaG! I have relatives in SLC. I sometimes tease my cousin about the "Okra" mountains.
Thank you Fitz! We are having a great time so far! I have some auto reversers that I'm trying to get wired up so we can lock the layout down, but we're making good progress and learning some skills along the way. So, so far, it's everything we hoped it would be.
