Hi guys, I need some help. I have a an Atlas/Trainman GP15 whose fuel tank (part of the frame) rubs on the rails, it is too low. How can I raise it a little bit?
Are you sure its the fuel tank and not the snow plow. I'v had snow plows scrape the rails before. If it is in fact the fuel tank...it snaps over the metal frame. Pop it off and sanp it back on. Make sure its snapped on there aligned and tight.
I was thinking that too David...but...the tank fill is towards the front as it should be. Just my thought
If it never scraped before. And you disassemblied it and reassembled it. And that tank is part of the frame. And it scrapes now. The problem would than seem to be in the trucks...somewhere
Are you 100% sure the tank itself isnt plastic and doesnt come off the metal part of the frame ? Turn it over...is the fuel tank split down the middle...like the frame ?
Have you had the trucks out of the frame? Have you taken the trucks apart to clean them? Lots of questions I know. Just trying to figure it all out for ya.
Hi gang, Florent don't go to attempting to adjust or enhance the frame. Look at this image a little closer............ After zooming in (I looked at it at 500 on my screen) close on this image I think: The tank does not fit properly, IMHO, it looks too short and in fact doesn't look like it is the correct tank. The air tank may be part of the frame but the fuel tank with filler is one piece and appears to be too far to the left. In fact it seems too close to the front truck and would not allow it to swing as it should? ? ? ? You did not mention if you purchased new or not. Ebay ? Carl

The GP15-1 is built differently than Atlas usual design. That caused some confusion with our fellow modelers. Have a look at the Spookshow site http://www.spookshow.net/loco/atlasgp15.html, where a truck is displayed. Do your trucks look the same - including the ledges? I think, the engine is riding on that ledge. Should it be broken off, the engine would sag and ride on the worm instead. Don't know for sure, cause I don't own a GP15, but have seen similar effects with different models.

Those don’t look like the correct trucks for that model. The pickup contacts for the TrainMan series are much bigger. Looks as if standard trucks have been substituted.
Was just looking at that. His trucks have the rounded straight tabs on the truck. The kind that rub on the wiper strips. The one on spookshow shows a 'squared off' 90 degree tab that just rubs on the frame itself. Good catch Rick...
If the trucks are too low check the coupler height; they should be too low as well. If they are not an issue and you can't find the OEM trucks, you could remove them and wet sand the bottom of the fuel tank on a sheet of 400 grit w/d sandpaper... remove the motor first too.
