Over the weekend, I started off with pouring another layer of water. From there I moved over to work more on some road crossings. The triple track section was finished up. Then the T intersection up to the crossing was put in.
Continuing with the crossing work. Added in the crossing panels. While those panels were setting, I added in a mess of ground cover around these new roads and crossings. After the ground cover dried, I cleaned up the excess, set the road way between the crossings and on the far side and left them to dry. I also installed a few road signs for the area.
I did work on making a mess by adding a little more ground cover to divide a couple of areas. Then the pipe guys showed up to clean up the very poor unloading job they did the other day. They started with restacking the pipe loads on the work bench and affixing them into stacks. After the pipe stacks were redone, the pipe crew did a much better job of returning them to the staging area on the layout.
During drying times for things I was working on, I went through a bunch of detail pars packages that I have and put a bunch of them to work. Some were as simple as un packaging these crates and placing them around one of the buildings. There were four packages of Deluxe Innovations metal building detail parts that were opened and applied. I was amazed at how all this stuff could be added to these buildings and not look like overkill. Recently I had seen these Atlas 3d printed propane tanks and though those would be cool. When I got them, all I could think is wow those are small. So after thinking about it for a bit, I though maybe I should mount them to a pad and stage them next to the tank refill building at the propane dealer. I think that worked out okay?
Speaking of the propane dealer, I uncovered another package of chain link fence so next up is to finish that missing section of fence. I also found a bottle of Testors clear parts cement that I have had for so long that I am surprised it's still liquid. I tried it on this building and we shall see how it does. If it works, I have al lot of windows that I can add this way. And to wrap up the weekend updates, I added a few trees around the farm house. Overall, a good weekend and it was nice to get a lot of those detail parts to work. I know there are a few other things I worked on that I didn't get pictures of but that can wait for another day. Hope everyone is staying safe and doing well.
Holy moly!!!! Incredible progress there BNSF! Wanna' come over to my place and work on my layout???? I can never seem to find the time. For example, I spent THREE, that's THREE you-know-what hours in the local supermarket!
It's a shame we live so far apart as I would love to help. I haven't been anywhere but the office and home for over a month now and I'm going stir crazy. I want to do some more generic interior building lights but the wife won't even allow me to stop at Lowes to pick up some more of the correct color wires At least with no running around on the weekends, I am getting to have fun working on the layout.
Your wife too? The reason I spent THREE hours today at the local supermarket is because I haven't been there in 3 weeks because my wife keeps telling me not to go as we have stuff in the fridge. That's what happens when you run out of EVERYTHING. From now on I'm going once a week. Surgical strikes in and out quick. Or three hours in a petri dish!
Yes sir, mine too. I guess the plus side is I'm using up lots of things I have accumulated over the years.
Recycling buildings. I found some pics earlier from two layouts ago. If I remember correctly, I bought these buildings and built them back in the late 80's when I didn't have a layout. They pretty much stayed boxed up until I started my first attempt at a bedroom sized layout around the year 2000. Here they are on the layout in 2004 not long before it was dismantled. They both were reused on my last layout and now here they have found a new home on my current layout. They are not the best looking or well detailed buildings but I am happy that they are still around and still with me.
Your doing a great job detailing. The farm house still looks good for being brought out by Bachmann a long time ago.
Thank you dualgauge! I had forgotten that farm house was a Bachmann model. It is just as it came out of the box. The only thing I have added is dust
I like the old buildings and the memories they stir. I have a bunch that have seen two layouts and maybe someday, a third. Your posts help to keep my hopes alive for a layout.
I was working on some fencing around the propane dealer and junk yard yesterday when I noticed that a trainload of RR brass had backed into the city siding. Hopefully the CFO isn't with them.
Well, when the last pour on the creek was done, it apparently didn't self level as it should. Now I am wondering if I add an additional layer, will it hide this imperfection?
Other accomplishments from the weekend. The main thing I did over the weekend was place a few figures on the layout. First were the canoers as seen above and in this blurry pic. Next was the roofers getting the for lease building all set to go And of course there is plenty of paint to touch up.
I/2 of the road work crew was busy while the other half were tending to more important matters And over at the construction site, the survey crew is finally getting things marked out.
More fencing went up around the junk yard and propane dealer. Sill short one section of chain link fence and one big gate.
Other accomplishments with no pics for some reason were getting one side of the parts for the electrical substation painted. Still have to flip them and paint the back sides before assembly can move ahead. Fixing one small section of road crossing near main street and cleaning up some assorted messes from last weekend. All in all, I put out 7 sets of W/S people scenes. That took a lot more time than I would have thought. Roofers Painters Survey Crew Road Crew Canoers People Sitting Assorted People - Standing/Sitting I was sure I had the Graveside Service set as well but just could not find it. Guess I only thought I was getting organized. Here was the last people scene I created. I really just spent a lot of time looking at the layout and trying to decide what to do next and plan where things should go. Guess I was not feeling all that motivated this weekend but I did enjoy being in the train room a lot.
