I have started to use this paint and happy with how it spays and looks on the model. There is an issue that I'm having with the paint peeling when I remove the masking. I use their masking tape, drafting tape and Timaya brand. Any suggestions? It's great to have a replacement for good ol Floquil but I'm not happy with the results.
What is the surface like? Do you use a primer coat or do you just spray the color? I have never used the paint personally, so I’m just running through the troubleshooting standards. My latest projects have been with soft masks or solid color models, so I haven't had many paint peeling issues lately, but it has happened with Model Master paints, which are acrylic and my usual go-to. I don’t really like enamel paints, but Trucolor is becoming harder for me to avoid. I might have to try it myself.
The surface is smooth. I spray a primer coat, let it dry 48-72 hours, spray the main color, let it dry then mask and apply the second color. When the masking is removed the second color peels along with the primer coat. You mentioned something called a soft mask. What is that?
So far I have painted Tamiya primed Brass, and Polybak models with Tru-Color paints. In all instances, I let the primer, or first color coat dry overnight before masking with Tamiya 1/4" masking tape, and I remove the masking tape about 20 minutes after painting. I have not had any peeling, and am getting good results. I do have to really thin the Tru-Color paint a lot, as it is super thick from the bottle.
I've had this issue, different paint, but only when having left the masking on too long. I try to put it on literally just before painting and remove it as soon as possible, before the paint dries too much.
I use Tru-Color as well. I have had issues with it lifting. What I do to combat that - I make sure the surface is "CLEAN" - that seams to have been my problem with it lifting. Something to look at and think about. Oh -- I use 3M blue painter's tape. Thanks, Wolf
