The 2-6-6-2 is Mantua latest version with can motor. The put a BLW pacific shell on it with other details and with a Walthers all wheel pick up tender.
Was a bit nosey and had a slight glitch at slow speeds ,but with a few hours run time it is very smooth running now with good slow speed running DC only.

The wrecker body is a Matchbox Dodge wrecker that I cut up mostly green and yellow , forget the number

2-6-6-2 = Newer Mantua DCC,can motor , is now only DC . Has BLW Pacific boiler and cab with Walthers tender And Bachmann tender connections.
Run good after a long break in. The two Riv 0-4-0 & 0-6-0 are stock motors with Athearn contact caboose trucks.

The Wrecker body is from a Matchbox Dodge wrecker.

I am doing some detailing to a Bachmann SD40-2 (probably another project that will sit on my workbench forever). It started as a BNSF unit in H1 paint, but will be rebuilt into BN 6813 in Whiteface. I cut out the brake wheel and replaced it with a scratchbuilt brake lever as the BN locomotives had. I am planning on getting etched fans and detailing the pilots and fuel tank too. Does anybody know if the Cannon treadplates for the Athearn SD40-2 will fit on the Bachmann? That filler putty might still need some sanding too. image.jpg

Here is another thing I have been working on, we’ll see if I can follow through with it. This is the deck for a 68' DODX flatcar. The ends are still 'guesstimated,' but the tie down arrangement is about done. I am hoping to get this one on shapeways with my depressed center flat. deck render.PNG

Just completed the latest building project for the Rainier Great Western. This is the PACCAR Kenworth assembly plant in Renton, WA.

Here are truck sideframes for the DODX car. I still need to add the bearing cones for the wheelsets and the attachment point for the bolsters. At this point, these are a first draft. I need to change some geometry around the center axle as well as above the outer axles. The equalization system around the middle or the truck needs to be refined as well. I found some better photos that show the trucks, so these will probably have to be remade. Something doesn’t look right. truck render.PNG

Here is the second version of the sideframe. I will probably keep it like this unless it has major problems. The only thing it needs is the bolster attachment and then it will be done. Some smaller details may still need to be changed, but is how it will look overall. I added some depth to the area around the middle axle to make it appear like it was hinged, but you can see in some places where the layers overlap, which means that these are rigid, unsprung sideframes. I wanted to make sure that they are strong enough to support a car on top of them, so while in real life the trucks can flex around those two large pins, these will be one solid piece for 3D printability sake. The outer axles have conventional cone-shaped bearings, but the middle axle has an oblong bearing, allowing it to float over uneven trackwork. That prevents one of the end axles from becoming cantilevered in the air if it runs over a bow or dip in the track. The backside is still unfinished at this point. You can see how the springs stick out past the back of the sideframe. That may need to be fixed. truck render.PNG sideframe rear.PNG

Looks good Trainiac. Interesting idea on the oblong cone for the center axle. A side note: I never had any derailment issues with you GSC 3 axle trucks, they are good performers, one set I sold ran on a club layout all day long, ran great over 18" rad switches never had a problem.
I am confident these will be just as good.

Thanks! I find nice vintage advertising with google images, resize them on a Word document, then I scotchtape a sheet of tissue paper to regular printer paper, and then my office has an excellent colour laser printer. Cut them out with a sharp xacto, then a fine film of modpodge using a brush. A wooden toothpick is carefully used to rub the sign into the wood grooves.
