A few Kodachromes from my old stomping ground. First, an overcast day in April 1980 at Bensenville, IL with MILW 188 and then a sunny August day in 1981 with the Soo at Des Plaines, IL.

Former N&W office building in Roanoke, VA, taken October 1994. Their offices at 8 North Jefferson Street (as seen fronting the street in the second photo) became upscale apartments. The building behind it is the one where I took the top photo. I'll bet these buildings are built like vaults.

Shot from an upper floor of Santa Fe's General Office in Chicago in April 1980 is this view of the electrified IC at Grant Park. That's Lake Michigan and the Adler Planetarium at the upper right.

    That's COOL, Hardcoaler!

I haven't shot a rail photo in weeks, so back to the random photo selector, and Jan 2008 we go.

On the boarder. At Santa Fe Junction, Kansas City in June of 2016. A train crossing the state line between Kansas and Missouri.

I'm betting a slow order (form B?). We see red, yellow and green boards out here for that on BNSF.

A red board stands at the end of a spur, just behind the radiator fans of the trailing unit.

On CSX, that is a warning sign - "Prepare to reduce speed or stop, limits as directed (CSX rule 43 and 707)". Most likely the restriction will be in their train orders or transmitted to the crew via the dispatcher.

The rail was passing through a construction zone (highway bridges) and these were placed at intervals to the approach.

An oldie from way back. When my dad was stationed in South Korea in 1956, he captured this shot of a 2-6-0 leading a train somewhere near his post. Note the guy with a "Tommy gun" on the tender protecting the train from saboteurs from the north.

Cold and frosty memories. Once upon a time these rails were busy moving construction materials from riverboats to destinations further west.....once..... PIC_0341.JPG PIC_0351.JPG
