I worked for a local Ferrellgas distributor for about 5 years Just a suggestion....The shop was at the back of the property...away from the office. You also might wanna cut a driveway through that foliage so the customers can get in there and get their propnae bottles filled. lol
I once saw a cover to Model Railroader with a tractor trailer backed up to a freight house. Something looked 'off' to me. Sure enough, the following month a trucker / model railroader pointed out that there was no way that truck could ever reach there that spot. I would add a bunch of emojis here but I can't make them out. ☻
Thanks for that high praise Grey One. I'm happy with how it is going so far but honestly, my modeling skills are just average compared to a lot of the great folks on this site. Still I am always pleased to know people are interested in what I am doing.
Those bridge abutments are from Chooch Enterprises. I think they make some of the best out there. They are a cast resin I believe so super sturdy. You would be hard pressed to break one. If I remember correctly, the GATX tank is Atlas but not 100% sure. It was one of my early N scale purchases. Think I even bought it and the helium car (in the other pic) on the same day. I'm actually surprised all the railing is still intact on it. What I would really like is one of those Atlas first generation 4 truck super tank cars but have yet to see one for a price I'd be willing to pay.
So, this is how this business was on the last layout. Never did get the fence installed around it. I am basically doing the same thing but with the office and shop reversed. I am guessing that is sort of what you were describing. As for customers, they are more trouble than they are worth.
Kinda. The fill station was right behind the office. I take it that small red building or the smaller gray one is the customer fill station by the looks of the piping going to them from the storage tanks. The object of having the fill station right behind the office was to keep customers from driving thru the yard...driving over stuff or hitting propane tanks sitting out in the yard for service or delivery. The shop had small home delivery tanks sitting all around it...just like the ones in your yard. Some needed repair and some where already 'rebuilt'. The 'shop' was also where they did propane conversions on vehicles back in the day. If the smaller blue building is the office...and thats the entrance side to the business...and the big storage tanks arent glued down...I would just turn the big storage tanks and pipping etc. around and leave the shop way out back.. Just my opinion. Nice pics of the tanks. Yep, I got ya on the fill station being by the office and keeping customers off the yard. In my case here, the big building is the office/main shop, the brick building is the pump house and I guess the little blue building was meant to be the customer fill station and that was all that came with the Wathers kit. I added the medium sized building to the set as storage and a secondary shop at the back of the property (or at least that's how I envisioned it). The one thing I need to add this time is more of the small tanks sitting around and finally get to putting up that fence.

Man, that KATO track sure makes it easy to get things running, and it all looks really good! You even have a REAL locomotive on there! ( Thomas is a most useful and helpful locomotive!) Another week has come and gone. Here we are at almost Thanksgiving. Over this past weekend, made a little progress. Go the last two under track uncoupling magnets installed. With that done, the uncoupling magnet project is complete. 11 total around the layout. That also coincides with being able to mark all track as officially laid. Worked on touching up some ballast and putting down additional ballast like between these sidings. Next on the list was to finish getting power to all tracks. Installed 4 additional toggle switches, wired them to a terminal block for power and to the track feeders. Now I just have to get the other half of the feeders wired to the bus wire and this will be complete. Was hoping to finish that but couldn't quite make it under the layout to do that last part yesterday. Please ignore that rats nest look at the bottom of the pic. Wire management is in the plan.
Here's a overall view from one end of the layout. With some ground cove and ballast going in, it's slowly staring to get a better look to it. Over on the other side, I cleaned up around the addition to the gas lot. I think I may have accidentally vacuumed up the little customer fill station as I couldn't find it when I was test fitting the business after the add on. Still tons to do. I guess next up is to look through the buildings I saved fro the old layout and see what I want to use and where it will fit. That will have to be done before I can really proceed much further with scenery. Hopefully Thanksgiving and next weekend will lead to more fun and progress.
Yes, it is the Kato ballast. It's real rock and matches well with the track. Can't say I've done the best job with it but I'm okay with how it is turning out so far.
Looks great so far! I've vacuumed up important things too, and had to dig through the dust bag... it's a messy job!
Thank you Hemi! I can say honestly this will not be my first dig through the vacuum. At least this time I was using my shop vac and if I remember correctly, I think I recently emptied it so hopefully won't be too bad. Picked up some additional 1/8 inch birch plywood last night at Lowes so maybe some fascia before the end of the year, maybe.

As you can see, I rescued the customer fill building from the shop vac and someone has already pulled up to get the tank refilled after running out of gas just as the big turkey finished frying.
