Thanks, I was just buying based on price mainly, the fact it has Micro Trains type coupler's, and actually weight too. I got really lucky and like them all and the ones you mention the Atlas' Columbia, Newberry & Laurens boxcar's didn't even know the side doors opened till I saw a description of them on the internet!

This is too funny -- I didn't know the doors opened! I just checked my CN&L boxcar and sure enough they do. (y) Thank you, thank you!

Another N Scale car I want to get is Bluford Shops' USRA 30'6" 2-Bay Hopper lettered for the Charleston & Western Carolina. The C&WC was another South Carolina road owned by the ACL and like the CN&L, survives under CSX. I'm an anthracite road modeler, but life is short and I'm not going to deny myself a car that will make me smile. :)

Your welcome, nice for once that I actually gave some one info they did not know about :) Kind of strange there wasn't something mentioned in the actual container of the box car's. Most of the stuff I bought looked brand new, although they are most likely old productions. My local hobby shop buy's collections from people, and I almost always look for these item's and try to negotiate with them on price. Usually they are really fair about it to me. I don't go there very often, and some of their stuff is way too high priced for me. They have been around so long ( 30 - 40 years I think ), and have so much stuff, it's kind of like looking for a needle in a haystack at times :) They also don't really do N Scale DCC locomotives, or I haven't found any at least. After they finish their move soon, gonna go back and see if they uncovered any good priced stuff that was buried :)

Scenery kits, Kato passenger cars + lights, Bachmann Spectrum tender.
The light kits went in like a snap. The flickering isn't too bad but the light isn't bright throughout the cabin. I guess the Santa Fe's are longer than usual.

You got some stuff! I'd be curious to know how that road system works out for you.

Is Kato's lighting compatible with DCC, i.e. AC current at 15V? Someone at a show told me that his lighting burned out, but I'm not wholly convinced that it was DCC that did it. I'm a DCC newbie tho.

The issue as I understand it is that the older KATO DC light kits used an incandescent bulb. When used on a DCC system, they tended to overheat and melt the roofs on the cars. The newer KATO light kits use LEDs and do not overheat.

And they (new LED version) are DCC compatible. I did all the coaches for Operation North Pole with the new LED kit.

I have a bay window transfer caboose from them. Very nicely detailed and one of my favorite cabooses.

Bluford makes very nice N scale prototypical (or very near prototypical) models. I have been very pleased with all of my purchases from them.

Not yet, but I have their Erie bay window model on my Christmas list. A friend bought their L&N model and says it's outstanding.

Just a bunch of decoders to replace the Digitrax s$%ty decoders that all died for no apparent reason.

Just got in some flashing pico leds for a fire engine (also recently acquired).

    20191109_144733.jpg

Took about an hour to get all the lights in but a lot easier than the locomotive upgrades I've been doing lately. Room is not an issue here LOL.

    David-

Curious what brand you chose? I'm in the same type of situation.

    Thanks

    Hello Mark,

Well the choice depended on which decoder went bad. If it was a board replacement decoder, I used a TCS decoder. If it was an EU-651 or a wired decoder, I used a Zimo decoder but I am switching to a lokpilot from ESU. This is mostly because I am using ESU sound decoders for all my sound units. I am also replacing all my Lenz Silver Mini's with the LokPilot decoders.
