Every time I click on one of the longer videos, I tell myself I am just going to watch a bit of it but I always end up watching the whole thing. It's like a compulsion (or compelsion, as Barney Fife put it).

And that guy called the 4014 a monster which is OK but when I saw it, it was more like, "it's a beautiful thing." It is still incredible to me that we actually got/get to see it running/in operation.

Today in Eagle Lake, Texas. No tripod and standing in a loose pile of sand. That is how the real professionals do it. NOT!!!

This is another of those chase video's. Giving you the feeling your riding along with the gang.

You can click on You Tube to see view the video and leave comments there.
    Enjoy!

I was driving home from Austin this morning and had to drop some things off at the property outside Hearne. Would be great if I could have stuck around till tomorrow. They will have to do a backup move to get from the DALSA to the Palestine sub to head toward Arkansas. This will all take place right in front of the Hearne Depot Railroad Museum. Oh well, the timing was right on my drive home to pop off on a country road east of Navasota and catch the train there.

Not wanting to one up-man-ship Russell, or steal his thunder. That would be tough to do.
Here is another of the Big Boy and 4141.

This is a stand in place video. You can see others leaving early as in the train hasn't left yet. Most likely they are headed out to capture their next shot of the Big Boy.

Post your videos or slide shows here.

What I find really cool about this is all the crowds of people who show up in these little towns to see this locomotive. Some local schools let class out early so the kids can go watch. In Eagle Lake, they even brought in multiple school bus loads of kids to see, hear and feel the rumble. I am sure this is going on all along its tour route.

It's really great that they let school out so the kids can experience the sites, sound and feel of the locomotive. My daughter and I chased Frisco 4-8-2 Mountain 1522 on May 19, 2001 from the Missouri/Oklahoma state line to Claremore OK. It was a great day and got to spend the day with my daughter.

I noticed that they have changed the schedule for 4014 in Oklahoma to November 16th. Cynthia and I want to catch the train in Wagner and follow it to Claremore. I'm going to let Cynthia drive while I take photos and video when we follow the train. Can't hardly wait.

We are on the Chase, again. These Chase videos are hard to capture as you can't set-up in advance, you can't frame the picture and the sunlight never does work to your advantage.

Big Boy is always under steam. Listen closely and you can hear when Big Boy is under power and not and when the diesel has taken over.

If you want to see the Big Boy stretching his legs and cruising the neighborhoods of Texas. Here you go.

    Truly a honest Chase Video.

    Did you like that?

    I thought so.

    We are still in Texas.

This was taken before #4141 replaced the current diesel.

Couple of things to watch for. Notice when they approach a crowd how they handle the them. Is it fair to assume when those Texans want a train to stop in their town, the train is going to stop.

Then keep an ear out and see if you can hear the diesel bell clanging. Never mind the clanging of the bells at the crossings.

    Enjoy!

Still in Texas and headed north.

Three shorts on the whistle usually means the engineer is going to back the train up. See if that happens here.

I don't know for sure but would speculate it was parked overnight and backed out onto the main to continue it's trip. Noting the security and fencing to keep the crowd back.

Back tracking, if that's a pun then it's intended. In other words looking back at Big Boy playing the rails in New Mexico. Not Mexico, New Mexico.

I kind of like the all yellow look but that doesn't mean you have to.

    Here we go.
