I've seen Unstoppable and have been a lil' bit disappointed, not to say a lil' bit upset. To much non-railroad related noise, explosions, bursting, etc, in the sound band. Not to say what has been said above, the worst in my opinion beeing the train negociating a tight curve with its inner wheels lifted...

My far preferred train movie is Andrei Konchalovsky's Runaway Train, starring Jon Voigt, Rebecca DeMornay and Eric Roberts. The movie has been made in Alaska and the action's drama is emphasized when one spots the four-unit lashup (a GP40 or GP40-2, a F-Unit and a couple GP9s), ice covered in a ruthless winter scene. Another breathtaking scene occurs when the "mad" lashup's front locomotive violently hits a freight train's caboose taking too much time shielding itself on a siding (a freight which is interrestingly operated with a very rare EMD MRS1...).

A movie that definitly deserves to be seen. ;)

And then the runaway lashup rolls down the track beside the freight, making one wonder if someone threw the switch under the caboose.

Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to nitpick a movie you like. :censored:

If I remember the train's crew is in radio contact with the railroad's dispatcher, who then threws the switch remotely. But anyway, I've to watch again this excellent movie (sorry, I'm insisting ;) ). :D

Have seen that one. Some of the scenarios portrayed don't quite make it. But still it does keep a person watching.

Another somewhat railroad related movie that hasn't been talked about, the great Steven Seagal movie "Under Siege II-Dark Territory".
Classic good guy versus bad guy aboard a train in the Colorado Rockies!!(y)(y)(y)

Another good one to nit-pick the railroad related no-no's!!:D:p:LOL:

I didn't catch your statement here until this morning. That's precisely what we are doing here is nit-picking these phony baloney train movies. So get in here with both hands ripping and tearing, legs and feet kicking, your teeth snarling and tear it apart. You'd be in good company. "Sorry, I'm Insisting" you responded and I'm repeating to make a point, I said LMAO.:confused::eek::D;)

Saturday, I watched this movie (again for the umpteenth time) with the critiques presented here, in the back of my mind. One, new one that hit me or I forgot, that I pointed this out earlier (and that's possible). You can climb on board the rear of the engine as well as you can the front. In the film the hostler had time to catch the rear of the engine. Didn't! Did you catch that as well? Of course that would have ended the movie so that wouldn't work. LOL

Sorry, only beeing a frog from remote stinckin' cheese eater country, France, I don't know what the acronym LMAO means. ;) . Speaking of the head-end locomotive hitting the caboose, I got the point : the locos run on the turnout frog to points, so no shortcut to truth on this side. ;) Even if I do agree, one should not start a train setting the locomotives straight to Run8.. Anyway, you're right, everyone one's taste.

LMAO is short or abbreviated for Laughing My Ass Off. In this application meaning let's have some fun with these movies and nit pick them to death.

I'll let you get away with "Turnout" considering where you hale from.:D
Oh not to worry. Allow me to explain. I come from a family of American, Rails or Railroad Employees who never once used the word Turnout to describe a Switch. So when my cage is rattled you'll hear me say it's a Switch, It's always been a Switch and It will always be a Switch. Well, on my layout at least.o_O(y)

Glad to have you on board here. Keep on coming back and your thoughts and ideas will always be welcome.

Not sure about this one, but many western from Sergio Leone were filmed in Spain.
Some on the narrow gage, but this looks like the Spanish standard (broad for us) 6 castillan feet 1.6 mt
