The DC/DCC Switch Panel is a product that we have been asked for many times and it's finally here. Easily wire your layout for DC/DCC and control it with the flick of a switch! Simple wiring will get you up and running in no time. LEDs give a bright visual indication of which "mode" is selected, even from across the room. Use one for a whole small layout or use multiple panels for multiple mainline track layouts. (Remember to isolate between the mainlines!) Comes with or without custom fascia panel. Fits very nicely on 1/2" plywood benchwork panels. Actually, it's not. No one asked me for that until I started producing them. Now several have. I am checking to the same form factor switch that has an ON-OFF-ON configuration. I may offer that option in the future. As of now, a majority who have ordered said it's not a need for them. However, I do see where it would be nice to cut all power to the track. Like I said, I'm checking into it. Thanks for the feedback!
it's surprising that they didn't ask for some way to be sure that DC and DCC are not supplied at the same time ... with a 'center-off' there CAN NOT be any way that both are supplied at the same time, it's much safer for no extra money involved, or even a different pcb, ... by the way, it's definitely not a new product
How can you have a simple toggle switch that can have both on at the same time? Internally they are spring loaded and will snap when you throw them. It is a break-before-make.
nope, not all are a 'break before make', some are the opposite, depending on the internal layout of the toggle switch ... some are a 'make before break' ... as such, the only way to be sure of a disconnect is with a center off position .. i have bought both types in the past, depending on the application, you have to be careful when ordering them .. with [for example] digikey, it's easy, just add the needed filter
Such a great idea and product execution Jason! Just the ticket for "transition" modelers with an inventory of both DC and DCC locomotives, or people like me who are 100% DC, but plan to someday enter the DCC world. On my small railroad, I know I'd shut one throttle down before turning on the other, so the outside chance that both outputs would be present for an instant is a non-concern for me.
Thanks! We're hoping it will help transition, as well as I know clubs like trying to keep all of their members happy.
Thank you. Yes, you are correct. This is a break before make switch. There is a "dead" area in the middle of the switch travel.
I'm not sure why the pictures are not showing in the original post. Here they are: Dcdccsw001 by KE4NYV posted Oct 2, 2019 at 4:28 PM Dcdccsw002 by KE4NYV posted Oct 2, 2019 at 4:28 PM Dcdccsw003 by KE4NYV posted Oct 2, 2019 at 4:28 PM
i think it looks good my self. i cant build any thing like that. so for people like my self this is good. at least somebody is trying to make things easier for us non talented folks hahahahahahahahah
I worked a similar set up at the right of my block control panel using different color LEDs. Green is DC and orange is DCC.
That is our philosophy at RPC. We want to take the guesswork out of things like this. Make it easy to implement and at the same time look good with a polished design. It's not that people aren't talented, I just think we all have our strengths and if electrical isn't yours, let us help you out!
Very nice! See, I know some people already have this function implemented in their own way. I know there are others that want something easy. I heard my customers asking for this, so I did it. It's already proving to be a good move. We have sold 40 panels just in the last week. For us, being in a very niche market, that is a smash hit!
I really like the concept and they look great. If you do a version with a center off position as well as what is already there, I am for sure in for one.
I can verify that Jason's products are great. I would recommend taking a look at his web site - there are all sorts of neat things there for the model railroader. Take a look at his solution for connecting feeders or my personal favorite - the Mini PCP for NCE systems. I don't use tortioses, but he has a good solution for controlling those, too. Don
