So working on my first layout modeled after the trains I grew up watching and loving along the Columbia river and into Portland, Oregon. Nothing specific just wanted to explore and learn how to model and enjoy doing it. Hopefully I can get some tips and tricks along the way from like minded people. Below is what I have so far...

I don’t know... doesn’t look like “beginner” level work to me. I’d say you’ve skipped “beginner” and are cruising through intermediate on your way to advanced.

    Nice job so far.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure this out, didn’t like a lot of designs and directions I came up with but today something just kind of clicked!

Fabulous work and I love the design. I can offer this tip: I looks like you used particle board as the base for your layout. Particle board is very unstable as it is susceptible moisture and loses its structural integrity over time if not reinforced (e.g. over large spans). With smaller scales this can be significant as a deviation to the joints in the track of minute amounts can wreak havoc. Scenery can be affected. Of course all of this is affected by how you have secured the foam to the particle board, roadbed, etc. I can't see your benchwork underneath. If it isn't reinforced you may want to consider it.
    Again, beautiful work!

I did use particle board because it’s what I had on hand and to save money, I do have a lot of reinforcement underneath. Thank you for that because now I can be on the lookout for possible deterioration!

Welcome aboard! I love what you have started so far. Should be a great layout! I love mountains, but have you bought stock in a tree company? :p

Haha right?! Good thing the wood is cheap, keep having to go back to the hobby shop and buy more! Luckily it’s only 30 cents for 3 foot sticks.

Yeah, I'll give you a thought! Stop making us look bad! :ROFLMAO:

You are progressing really fast and really good for a noob. I think you need to send a PM to a moderator to get that name of yours changed! :D

Oh, and I'm really liking what you have done so far!

Haha thank you! I just spent two years obsessing and watching too many videos. But then again I’m my own worst critic so I look at it and think I’m doing something wrong!
