    Herrin, IL is former IC and is far downstate. The line is operated by the Crab Orchard & Egyptian Rwy. which is owned by Progressive Rail. Interchange is made with the BNSF (CB&Q) east of town on their line to Paducah, KY. Per the news story, it seems that the freight car repair firm will operate a segment of the line.

    All kinds of long-gone coalfield spurs in that region, including branches from the MP (StLIR&S) and C&EI, with everybody seeking a slice of the pie.
