Hi Rick, If you look closely, I've replaced the handy wipes roller in the Centerline Model #2 car (car coupled to the locomotive), with a piece of bright boy. I've had zero issues with this setup and I think it does a better job of keeping the rails clean. If you need a little extra cleaning, just place the roller on top of the bright boy.

Hi John, A little background info. I know most people here in the US when they hear IPA think of India Pale Ale. I've been watching a lot of layout construction videos from the UK and they refer to Isopropyl Alcohol as IPA. It's funny as when I first heard someone say they were using IPA as a wetting agent for their ground scatter (there's another term for you) I though, what a waste of beer Then they used PVA to glue everything in place. PVA translation: Elmer's glue. I guess some of the terminology is beginning to stick
Gosh, I hope not. I say old chap, that terminology can stay across the pond. We are already starting to sound like them and act like them. "Turnout" it's a flippin "Switch". We don't shunt cars we shove them. Years ago and there again not so long ago. My family took a boat ride doing their best to get away from England. I'd like to keep it that way. On another note I don't need anymore abbreviations. Just say what you mean. Aiiyiiyii !!! i said not grinning.
Well I am 1620 on my Dad's side (England) and 1870 on my mothers side (Germany). And to the point, abbreviations should be in local relevance!
Hi Rick, It's becoming unavoidable because of TV and the internet. I kid you not, I constantly hear the younger hostlers at work ask each other, "Who Driving" and there are not talking about their automobiles. Turnouts have even found their way into the rules books. I'm not going to state any specific rules, but you'll now see one rule that talks about the proper lining of "turnouts" and the next rule will tell you how to safely throw a "switch" and they are both talking about the same piece of track. Welcome to the 21 century On a side note, yes my fathers side of my family came to the USA from England, originally from Scotland and my Fathers grandmothers side was originally from Germany. They all came here back when we were still known as the colonies. Members of my fathers family fought with General Washington at Trenton, Brandywine, Paoli, Germantown, Valley Forge, Monmounth and Stony Point. They have grave markers erected by the State of Pennsylvania denoting them as Revolutionary war heroes. My fathers grandfather fought with one of Pennsylvania regiments at Gettysburg, thankfully he survived or I might not be here today. My family has a proud military history including my Great Uncle who flew bombers over Germany during World War 2 and survived 50 missions without being shot down and I'm a USAF veteran. I'm not saying we should reunite with the UK. I am proud to be an citizen of the USA and a did take an oath 40 years ago to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies both foreign and domestic, a pledge I take very seriously to this day. Knowing that let me say, I do find watching videos of how people in the UK and all over the world enjoy this world wide hobby of ours fun and interesting and quite honestly, there is a lot of good modeling information out there on the world wide web. Also never get a job with the prototype railroad, they love to abbreviate everything, some examples I hear everyday. WNSOR, NLP, TCC, EPIC just to name a few.

The railroads pretty much have to abbreviate. Try being the one responsible for typing it all up and remembering it all. Even the freight cars that come through are abbreviated. Doesn't mean I have to like it. Somewhere in my files is a list of railroad abbreviations and what they stand for. I think you can find resources on the internet as well. It's complicated and sometimes repetitive but with different meanings. Where's the hope? It's clear the powers at be are working toward a Univeral Language and Government. But now I'm getting political. Good to see I'm among the brethren. I don't know the actual dates. On my Father's side-Engliand Mother's Side-Germany and both sides married or mixed it up with the Native People here. So we laugh about the lack of a good Homeland Security in place. One member originally spelled his name Wilhelm. Long story. He married a Seminole. Gave birth to a daughter who mated with a Hopi/Apache now Chieftan, I and my brother arrived shortly after. It was originally thought to we had Blackfoot as part of that heritage. That would of been the side the dad that raised me he came from. Another long story. DNA shows mostly Seminole, Apache and Hopi. Most of the boat loads of people... can you call them refugee's? Came here to get away from religious persecution and have a life of their own making.
