As a locomotive engineer, it never ceases to amaze me, the forces involved to make thousands of tons of metal stack up like cord wood. I so hope no one was hurt in this. Looking at the images, it seems to be at a lower speed, but in signaled territory. I see many different types of cars involved. Mostly boxcars, flat bottom gons, along with bulkhead flats, I see the end of an airslide car too, the lumber is not burnt or scorched. I see some handrails in the images, maybe a LPG car.

Even though I never saw a real one, the NP paint scheme on that U-Boat has been a favorite of mine ever since I can remember. (y)

Man, that C&NW F-3 is another eye-popper Legoman. Wow. I grew up along the C&NW's Wisconsin Sub and just love the shot, nicely lit, mu cable draped over the headlight and all. I think I've stared at it for five minutes now. :)

Interesting to see icicle breakers protecting the horns on that SD24.

That is odd. Does it get that cold in the south in the tunnels? I don't think even the Western Railroads used those. SP, D&RGW, even MILW never had that, hmmmm.....

The C,NO&TP is their link to Cincinnati, which isn't all that far south.

Icicles are more prevalent in the south where warm sun will melt snow and cold temps will freeze the drips into icicles, especially at tunnels and bridges.

Yep, and the lines through Asheville, NC (there are seven tunnels east of there on the Loops) and on west to Knoxville and Bristol see plenty of cold winter weather.
