    All,
Here are some photo's which my Late Father and I took in 1969 ...I was 7 years old! This wreck happened on the NKP on Rogers Road in HAMBURG, NY about 3 minutes from my parents house. At this point there were 3 railroads running through there -

    The PC .. -EX - NYC , NEE - L. S. & M. S.
    NKP
PRR - The ORIGINAL WESTERN NEW YORK and PENNSYLVANIA paralleled the NKP

I have the original slides, Growing up I got to see many train wrecks around WESTERN NEW YORK.

If dated 1969, it probably was N&W, not NKP. (Merger was 1964.)

I can only guess that those many wrecks were all part of the general decline of infrastructure in that time frame. :(

My error here a family friend reminded me that it was 1967, which made me 5 years old! My apologies to the error on the time frame.

But yeah, given the terrible track condition of many railroads, in those days, it's not surprising there were many wrecks. Deferred maintenance.
