Ahhh yes for all those suckers born every day... including the seller of this sham.

I can't describe how much I hate eBay items posted for sale that can potentially hurt our hobby.

That is a toy train set car not MicroTrains made to run a plastic type layout that is all molded with maybe a battery powered loco pulling.

That is a Micro machine toy train originally made by Galoob, now owned by Hasbro.

Here is one of the sets they use to sell

Not sure if this is just an honest mistake by the seller or someone trying to deceive model railroaders.
I'm pretty sure anyone who's been in the hobby for longer than 5 minutes will know that is NOT a Micro-Trains car. ;)

That's kind of an interesting set (Rio Grande bilevels? Really?). I guess if you can't afford a regular trainset, or don't trust the kids not to swallow/break anything, it's a decent way to get them started. I find it interesting that the set appears to have working turnouts, but the side tracks lack the groove in the center that seems to be key to operation.

I believe this particular seller has been discussed before, either here or "on another network." In addition to the, ahem, optimistic, prices, a certain uncomplementary (but still printable) word was used to describe this particular vendor's attitude.

Well, over 10 years ago this thread was started in the N scale forum and has taken on a life of its own. For whatever reasons, model railroading seems to be a "tribal" phenomenon with modelers of the same scale banding together. They only go to the topics in the scale of their choice. We used to try to get general topics started in the Inspection Pit forum but for some reason they were never as popular. There are some similar topics that crop up in multiple scales like "What's on your workbench", "What is your latest purchase ", etc. Then there are the rubber scalers that post everywhere. ;)

I may have posted these about a year or so ago, but I could not find my posts... and these are still on E-bay. Sorry due to my computer being on a gov. network I cant access E-bay atm, but I will try to get to the links and add them below when I get home. But if you were to search these following you will get a nice laugh.

    Digitrax BT-2 (for a steal of $300)
Digitrax UT1 (It runs 99 locos don't you know for the very low price of $300)
Tomica Train set No.2 for the amazing low price of 9,999.99 (if this were yen the price would be correct)
Tomica Train set No.1 for the exact same price as above.

I have had these on my watch list for over a year. The owner of the Tomica's doesn't know how to convert Yen to Dollars, and I have even send them a link to a collector website that showed them at 10K yen which is about $125.

The Digitrax offerings I have been watching I think 2 years now and he insists that they are "brand new" and has no clue that they will not work with Loconet command stations. He says that it has the same plug, so it will work... um... nope!! Oh and why buy a UT-1 for $300 when I can get a UT4D for $150 or less.

I have saved a handful of Searches on eBay and find the same thing, that overpriced and/or busted up items are repetitively listed over and over again ad nauseum. I finally found a way to filter out offending Sellers and it's made my Searches so much more pleasant. (y)

Those free ads they offer can be good for the seller. The flip side is that everyone thinks they can sell stuff that's usually not worth shipping.

"May be new..." Busted steps everywhere. Very obvious. "Selling it as used." Good choice, but better yet describing it as thoroughly thrashed is better. Gotta agree, this fifty year old relic deserves a proper burial.

Holy cow, that IS a relic. When I saw the eBay photo I recollected how much I wanted one of these SD-45s in demonstrator colors as a kid. Thankfully I couldn't afford it. What a waste of money that would have been! Looking at my 1971 JMC catalog, I find that these sold for $16.98 Ea.
